Martin Hopeful – Q&A Interview

Martin Hopeful

Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

Well, I am from Brooklyn, NY I been doing Hip Hop for about 10 years and running. It seems like it’s a lot of years; however, I am blessed for doing it this long!

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

I have a lot of influences; but for right now seeing a lot of my old friends back in college making strides has influenced me in taking things to another level. Other than that, it is just the joy it brings. You know you found your dream job when it gives you joy!

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I honestly believe only a few people are doing this music thing like me…only a handful. In a world where Christian Hip Hop is not getting the sound they deserve we have people like Andy Mineo and Lecrae doing their thing by really pushing the envelope and making quality music that everyone will love and at the same time give glory to God. Then you have Martin Hopeful. Really trying to do the same thing really making a difference. Hip Hop is talking about, sex…I say I am in the same boat..the only difference is I don’t give into that…I will show you why when you listen to my music.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

So far… Jeepz, Eddie Rivers, Tone Jonez, Purple Star Beatz, Che Rhenosonce, Rhyzel, Akili, and Soultronik in terms of instrumentals.

In terms of recording I worked with Ariel Borujow, James Eliot Wilson, Eddie Scissors, Dez Buddha and Nat from the Nat Cave to name a few.

I would love to work with Action Bronson, Jon Bellion Jared Evan, and Andy Mineo.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Hip-Hop that is on the verge of being discovered. The kind of Hip Hop where real fans are the first to dig it up and share with others for the soul purpose to get discovered even further. Also about community. You go to functions and see the same artists all the time. It is so closed knit that we join together and don’t even know it. We support each other and probably go home and say “since when I supported this guy?” Then you doing collabs, shows together etc. It really builds morale for both parties.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?

Everyone I collabed production wise have influenced me one way or another. They either pushed me to go farther in my career or change it up when I sound the same. They all really helped me as an artist and will continue to in the future.

And who would you like to work with?

My dream production collab is Ryan Lewis then I want to do tracks with Apollo Brown, and Black Milk. That would be dope.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

#SalutationsandAnime is the EP that will drop in the month of May! And coming soon is The Purple Blazer.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of “Man Who Dreams”? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.

I have huge dreams. I wanted to share these dreams to people to give them a description of who I am as a person, emcee, and Christian. In terms of the art work, my boy Mr. Raisin heard what I said and actually put it out on the canvas. If you want your work to look exactly like you pictured it look for Mr. Raisin. That’s that dude!!
