SeddyMac – Q&A Interview

Seddy

Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

My name is Sedrick McLean aka SeddyMac aka SeddyMackaveli. I was born in Fayetteville, NC in ’92, but lived most of my life in Clarksville, TN. I’ve been rapping for 5 years when September rolls around

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

My influences in hip hop or in music in general since I’m not just solely a straight hip hop artist is real life experiences, honesty, and studying from my many inspirations which can range from A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Eminem,  and Andre 3000 to newer artists like Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Childish Gambino, & J Cole

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

My music is very honest. Honesty is key to making true connections to others in my opinion. The closer knit you are to yourself and the listeners the better projects you’ll make in the long run. There are times where I feel like switching things up every once in a while, but that’s based on how I’m feeling at the moment.

I think my obvious separation between me and other MCs is my ability to sing harmonize and rap well. Also being completely giving of my own self to the music.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

Well, I’ve work with lots of rappers and it’s hard to name them all. Boooka, Novet, the homie JC, my brother from another who does Christian rap music Mike Sarge, the list goes on and on and people can just look me up and see who I’ve collaborated with.

I’m honestly not picky on collaborating, so mainly if you’re dope and I like the style you bring to the table I don’t mind working with you.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Underground Hip Hop basically is non mainstream music. Stuff not made for the radio. The more uncut, raw side of the hip hop spectrum. It’s funny how some artists straddle the line between mainstream and underground at times. What do we call the people like Lupe Fiasco? He’s underground mostly, but then he’ll make songs like Kick Push and get the mainstream popping as well.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?  And who would you like to work with?

I’m not a producer myself and I don’t actually have one in-house, but my influences on production would be Kanye West, 9th Wonder, No I.D. those are the main ones. There are some newish producers like Digi+ Phonics, Blended Babies, Clams Casino, 40, Petter Cottontale that I like doing

their thing as well.

I don’t have a specific one producer I go to, so mainly, if you have something dope that I can flow to I’ll hit you up and start working on songs.  If I could work with any producer I’d definitely say Kanye for his different styles of production he brings.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

I’m currently promoting my 3rd mixtape I just released called From The Heart II: The L.O.S.T. Files. That’s mainly it, but I may have something in the works with Mike Sarge………maybe…….? We’ll see. Still in talks about that.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of From The Heart II: The L.O.S.T. Files? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.

First off, shout out to Mike Sarge for making the cover for me. It really brought people in to see what this project is really about. The cover is kind of self-explanatory. Basically, it’s a vinyl record shaped as a heart symbolizing me putting my heart on this project. The scroll underneath represents the Files in L.O.S.T. Files.

Mainly, this project is a story from start to finish. Starting off more innocent and carefree with songs like Heart 2 Yours & Nostalgia to a more serious midsection of the tape dealing with many thoughts of negativity into a further amplification of negative energy to overcoming it and finding yourself within living life and exploring more into life as a whole open-minded.
