Flowers for Reagan (New Jersey) – BIG GOLD BLUNTS (Mixtape)

My name is Adam. I’ve been making/producing electronic music under the name Flowers for Reagan for way longer than I had hoped to be (7 years around now) but, hey, here I am, and, hey, I actually have something I feel that is worth promoting – BIG GOLD BLUNTS, my new mixtape as Flowers for Reagan.

Flowers for Reagan, as a project, has resulted in several albums and EPs, now unavailable due to the shift from experimental electronica to experimental hip-hop. Regardless of genre, each release served as a scrapbook for my life at the time, through albums dealing with the death of my father, a bipolar diagnosis, drug abuse, heartbreak, until the storms broke and the music turned outward. This was the genesis of BIG GOLD BLUNTS.

What amounts to basically a love letter to my favorite genre, BGB is a half hour of fragmented hip-hop; marrying glitch, soul, and traditional boom-bap at a dizzying pace, with some of my favorite rhymer’s verses over it. (Seriously, check that roll call on the album page.) It’s a quick listen and insanely fun; nothing stays quite the same from minute to minute. True to Flowers for Reagan, each verse holds a special significance, yet all speak to confidence. There’s something empowering about hip-hop, and I do my best to bring that into the foreground.
