Stoofy – Q&A Interview

Stoofy

Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

My government name is Stefán Paul Williams aka “stoofy”. I’m a natural-born leader on a mission to help the world raise it consciousness. I’m from a small college town Ann Arbor,Michigan 20 minutes outside Detroit.

I’ve been making/playing music for 16 years (trumpet,baritone,tuba,piano), and making hip-hop for 5 years.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

My primary influence in making hip-hop is life experience, those inevitable things most people experience day-to-day,that everyone can relate to. Other influences; current events, conspiracy theories, political literature, and metaphysics.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

My music isn’t just music its cinematic. You don’t just hear my message you see it, you feel it. I think that factor alone separates me from most Artists.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

When I first started rapping I had the pleasure to work collaborate with Val young from Tupac’s “Live and Die in L.A.” Which was a dope experience. More recently I’ve Been working with the Memphis queens; Ms.Rax and Cristle J ultraviolet.other collabos include:DJ young cee,Dj NY,Obie Iyoha,J-Classic,William Fairbanks, and Hi-Potent-C.

In the future I need to get a time machine so I can go back to the 90’s, because all these new rappers are slaw,WACK,garbage.Real talk I’d love to work with; M.I.A,Lupe Fiasco,Kid Cudi,Kanye West,Nas,Q-tip,Mos Def,Common,Hopsin,Timbaland,Missy Elliot, and obviously Eminem.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Underground Hip-Hop to me is a glimpse of truth.Crafted poetically skillfully encrypted with symbolism, graced by dope rhymes and metaphors. It doesn’t pay homage to superficial corporate gender roles. It’s reflective of what’s happening in minority communities, and society as a whole.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?  And who would you like to work with?

My production influences are strange and diverse. I’ve always been fond of ; J Dilla, Madlib, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis, Sebastian Bach, Pete Rock, and 9th Wonder.

Jupyter exclusively makes my beats at the moment, occasionally I work with Colby Parker from Lex Luger’s #VABP Music Group.

In the future I’d like to work with Timbaland,Black Child,No I.D,Deadmau5,Dj Tiesto,Calvin Harris,Mike Will made it.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

My first album (yet to be titled) will be dropping this winter on my birthday 12-12-14. Currently I have a few summer Mixtape features in circulation; “boss up”, Loud mouf Dj’s present Indie Artist Independence Day, and Hip-Hop illustrated sex on the beach.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Rubber Boots? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.

Rubber Boots started as a vision, but when I started getting a lot of support and inspiration everything began to materialize. The key essence to the creativity of this project was spontaneity to perfectly capture certain moments or insightful ideas I’d experience. My mind is all over the place so I think that allows the listener to experience “different worlds” on this project.

A lot of people think I put a message or code in the cover but I just wanted something trippy that would throw people off not sure what to expect. The mystery allures.
