Jim Dutch – Q&A Interview

Jim Dutch

Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

I’m from Queens New York. I’ve always played with music.  I started writing in middle school but as far as taking it serious , hitting the studio and putting out actual tunes , I guess u could say a little over 4 years now.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

The struggle. the shit I’ve seen and done. I started rapping cus I knew I had something to say. I knew I couldn’t be the only nigga doing and going through the shit I was going through, so I felt like I had to speak up and rep for niggas.  I’m spitting shit I know niggas could relate to. I done had niggas come up to me like “yo that track or that video was fire son. that shit gave me chills” that’s the type of shit I like to hear cus I know the nigga either went through it or he going through it. At the end of the day if my music motivates someone to try to better their situation then it’s a job well done.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I’d say my music is just that real street shit.  what separates me from these other MC’s is that they’re to busy trying to fit in rapping about cars, jewelry , and a bunch of other shit they know nothing about. Me on the other hand I’m comfortable with myself. don’t get me wrong I’m not out here broke looking hurt but nigga I’m definitely not out here driving hundred thousand dollar cars and  jewelry and rocking Versace and Egyptian clothe feel me.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I haven’t really collaborated with any one other than who’s in my camp such as Hollow Da Don, Dsmallz ,Ricky Batts. As for In the near future I’m down to collab with anyone that’s hungry and got some skills. I say skills cause a nigga could be hungry but the nigga out here sounding like Trinidad James on a track than  I ain’t with it.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

My definition of underground hip hop I’d say is that real raw shit. like when you can feel a niggas  hunger through their music.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?  And who would you like to work with?

Production wise I don’t really have no influences i grew up in that dipset era when niggas was using the sped up soul samples and shit.  I find myself liking a lot of old school samples So I guess u could say heat makers too. I also like ninth wonder joints.  right now my man whirlwindz does some of my production but I just be jacking a lot of shit off sound click right now. gotta get it how u live. feel me ?

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

On July 4th I dropped my first mixtape titled “Courtesy Of Queens” so I’m currently still promoting that. I’m already writing new material for the next tape which I don’t have a title for as of right now.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of COURTESY OF QUEENS? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Mixtape Art Cover.

See the funny thing about “Courtesy Of Queens” was I was actually going to scrap the whole project due to the fact that some of the tracks were old. Like I said I started recording about four years ago and what I recorded was just sitting on the computer in the lab.  But as they say what’s old to you might be new to someone else, so I said fuck it plus so many people in my hood would always ask me when the tape dropping I felt like I couldn’t do that to them and have em wait any longer so I just threw a couple new joints on there and gave em a quick lil body of work to have for the summer. The feedback been nothing but love so with this new tape I’m working on ahh man shit gonna be crazy. As far as the mixtape’s cover with me and my daughter on the front I just felt it was some real authentic shit.  we’re sitting on my stoop looking out to the street but I feel like it signifies so much more like I’m looking out at life and I’m giving y’all  my take on shit coming from the hood but I also got this lil girl here with me that I have to teach and prepare to live and survive in this cold world.

Where can we find your music and info?
