Aileron – Q&A Interview

Aileron

Tell us a little about the Hip Hop group. Where are you guys from? How long have you been making Hip Hop together?

Aileron is originally from Kamloops, B.C. Canada, but is now based in Vancouver. We have all been homies since the high school days. Ascend & Aesthetic Deliverance (A.D.) starting working together in an audio visual class at Westsyde Secondary, and the friendship stuck ever since. A few years later Eros & Ascend would form the group Aileron, only for A.D. to join not long after. We have been making music all together for about 5 years now, but been friends since before we had hair on our nuts.

What influences you in making Hip Hop as a group?

Our biggest influences as a group I would say would have to be:

In the past, our families and friends that have surrounded us with music, especially Eros & Aesthetic Deliverance (A.D.) born into music recording and performing families. That definitely drove us to where we are now.

Right now, the hip hop industry and the direction it is going with conscious artists finally getting proper exposure, as well as other local artists around us doing so well  And being in such an amazing atmosphere when we are at home in our studio.

Overall, of course our influential artists that we listen to and grew listening to, there are way too many to name.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I Would say our music is positive, conscious, knowledgable and has potential to inspire many people young and old. We really just want to spread universal love and help more people become aware and learn more about themselves, and the world we live in.

I would say the fact that we aren’t super conceited, and aren’t worried about being the “dopest, richest, flyest” MC’s out there. As well as not letting our ego’s get in the way, but at the same time bringing heavy, serious flow, is what separates us from other MC’s. We are trying to do something no one has done, which is mix true west coast hip hop flavour, with conscious lyrics that have meaning and a message for the people to relate to.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

We have collaborated with many dope artists, and will continue to due so:

We basically did a whole album with Sunspot Jonz of the Living Legends (he produced 2 tracks and rapped on 6 other tracks on our debut album “Stretch To The Sky” and lived with us while we were recording it in Kamloops at the River house.

On our new album “Flight Risk” we worked with:

¡MAYDAY! of Strange Music 2 tracks (Just Smile, Whole New Page

Zumbi of Zion I (Dreams Never Stop)

Pep Love of Hieroglyphics (With Love)

As well as had completely separate instrumentals produced by

Rob The Viking of Swollen Members (Praise The Lord)

Amp Live of Zion I (Say To Say, ETA)

Gianni Cash of ¡MAYDAY! (Prima Donna, Turbulence)

As well as local artist like: Ause Team, Swiss Lizz, Jessica Leigh, Koji Oni, One Sin For All.

In the future we would really like to work with:

Eligh of Living Legends, Slug, Kardinall Offishall

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Underground hip hop to us is staying true to yourself, music and your culture. Grinding and working hard and not selling yourself short for some major label that just wants to build an image and make money off you. With the industry these days, underground hip hop is more like “Independent hip hop” because with social media and internet and etc, it is hard for anyone to really be “Underground” anymore. We are all just one click of a button away. The distinction is really in the content of the music. (Macklemore is a perfect example) Two years ago he was underground..and that same underground style and content is what won him Grammy awards…

Underground is a way of life.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?  And who would you like to work with?

Production wise our influences would have to be:

Eligh & Amp Live, ¡MAYDAY!, Tech N9ne and all of Strange Music production.

We do all of our own production, beats, recording and writing

In particular:

Ascend is more known for his writing, and project management.

Eros is our heavy west coast style beat producer, our staple sound.

Aesthetic Deliverance makes our more marketable tracks, and mixes all of our final products, he is our main audio engineer, and the spine of our production.

Producers we would like to work with most:

Amp Live, Eligh, ¡MAYDAY! (Wrekonize, Gianni Cash, Plex Luthor)

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

We are just promoting our new album!

Aileron – Flight Risk (which drops worldwide August. 24!) Cop that shit!

(we will also have some solo projects coming out in the new year as well from Eros & Aesthetic Deliverance)

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Praise The Lord (Music Video)?

Our directors Evan & Dwight of Thoughtbox Visuals are amazing to work with, we all just brainstormed the idea that we wanted to make the video fun, and poke at all the mainstream artists that do the same old typical shit in every music video (images of them in cars, with money, basically taking the music that we would die for, for granted so they can buy materialistic shit that means nothing) instead of using their public status to promote something positive that could help change lives. And my (Ascend’s) niece sings in the hook so we wanted to keep the video PG rated, hoping to link with the younger generation and get them to follow our movement.

Where can we find your music and info?

You can find all of our music & clothing on our official website at www.aileronent.com.

and of course on iTunes, Bandcamp, and any other online store worldwide. As well as listen on YouTube & Soundcloud.

Any Shout outs?

Sunspot Jonz for unlocking the door for us. Thomas at Ineffable Music Group for making all this possible. Zion I, Pep Love, ¡MAYDAY! Rob The Viking, All our friends, family, supporters and people we are going to meet in the future.

Spread Love.
