Adam Dollar$ – Q&A Interview

Adam Dollar$

Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born and raised. The youngest of two siblings. I always rapped for fun and amusement but I’ve been actively pursuing music for about two years now…

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

My favorite groups mostly influence me like Tribe Called Quest and Wu-Tang. Outside of musical acts my influence just comes from life. Trying to paint a vivid picture of my everyday living through complex rhyme schemes.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I would describe my music as art. Life imitates art and vice versa. Another word that comes to mind is thought-provoking . I wanna paint a picture of reality by using complex schemes and relatable entendres that makes the listener think but ultimately figure it out.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

So far I haven’t collaborated with any other artist. I guess since I’m working on my debut EP the focus has been to get listeners to know me as an artist first. Man, artist I would love to collaborate with in the near future would be Raekwon and  definitely Jay Electronica.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

My definition of underground hip hop is not catering to the masses. Hip hop music that eradicates the pop influence that fills the culture at the moment. With that being said  I’m not saying that the masses can’t like some underground hip hop but in some situations the content doesn’t fit the club/party culture that rap has evolved into.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?  And who would you like to work with?

Production wise my influences are DJ Premier, Q-tip, J. Dilla, Pete Rock, Madlib, MF Doom and The RZA. Them cats made classics!! I have several different producers that I’ve worked so far in my young career. Jay Splash, Basquiat, Young Sav and DJ Red Carpet( Major). All up and coming producers making a name for themselves. I would like to work with all of my influences. Receiving production from any of those legends would be nothing short of amazing.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Well the project I’m promoting is my debut EP called “The Vapor$”. It will be my first release. It’s basically to prep the listeners for my debut album…

Can you give us a brief description of your new debut EP coming out late OCT? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your EP Cover Art.

The EP will be the blueprint of what listeners are going to get from me as an artist. It will feature 5-6 tracks. It’s versatile in production and subject matter. The concept behind the title is the vapors are the things that individuals see as influence. Things that influence me don’t necessarily influence the next man so in that sense he doesn’t see what I see. Those vapors become concrete in our mind and inspire us to achieve whatever it is we set out to do.

Where can we find your music?

As of right now listeners can find my music on my soundcloud and they can catch me on twitter @AdamDollars.

Any shout outs?

Everyone who’s helped make all these things possible. Major and Block for inspiring me to pursue music seriously. Dre for promotion, LFranchise for being the illest engineer, and Cinematic Savage and V for the input and support. Couldn’t do it without them boys …
