Broadway B – Q&A Interview

BroadwayBNoIdeaPic

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

I was born in Texas but raised in North Carolina. Now I’m living in Los Angeles. I’ve been making hip-hop for about 15 years. Some of my childhood friends liked to rap, and I thought “I can do that”…and I gave it a try. I quickly learned that I had the ability to wow people with my lyrics.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

It’s the best art form there is. To be able to tell a story, or get out how you are feeling, all while rhyming, and keeping a certain cadence….not everyone can do it, but I love it. There’s no form of expression like it!

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I think what separates me from a lot of rappers is that my music is not super bragadocious, it’s not super hood, it’s just real, and it’s just me. I’m not afraid to talk about love. I’m not afraid to point out my own weaknesses, or talk about experiences when things didn’t go right. I think someone can listen to my music and really get a sense of who I am.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I’ve collaborated with Roberto Horns a lot. That’s my dude from high school. Super talented cat. I did a track with SeaPR on my last EP, and we are working on some stuff for my next EP. He’s another real talented dude. Mike Velo is a real smooth singer that put a hook down for my track “No Angel” on my first EP. He really set that off. I also really appreciate Amanda Dolly for jumping on “Team Single” and killin’ it! She was also in the video for “No Angel”…she’s one of the most talented women I know. I’m always down to collab with talented people, so I hope to do more of that in the future. If you have talent, get at me lol.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Underground Hip Hop comes from real individuals and describes their real struggles, stories, goals, and dreams. It’s hasn’t been touched by corporate clowns only out to make it a dollar. It’s music in its purest form.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?  And who would you like to work with?

Roberto Horns does a lot of my production. He’s also been super instrumental in helping me develop as an artist. I’ve started working with PLAYMUZiK a lot too. You may not know who he is now, but you will, trust and believe that. I’ve done a couple tracks with my dude DJ Happee. His work definitely added to my latest EP “Jaded and Faded.” I also produced a couple tracks myself on my first EP. It would be dope to work with Kanye, and I like what Mike Will and J Cole are doing out there.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Right now it’s all about the “Jaded To Faded” EP. I also shot a video for one of the songs on the EP, “No Idea” and I’m working on putting another video together for my song “Fly Out”. I’m also already working on tracks for my 3rd EP, “Faded to Famous”.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Jaded To Faded EP? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album/Mixtape Cover Art.

“Jaded To Faded” is essentially a continuation of my first EP “Jaded”. “Jaded” basically takes you through the process of how a dude goes from meeting a woman he’s attracted to…to being Jaded. Once someone is Jaded, then you just want to have a good time, party, play the field, and spend money doing things YOU love to do. The “Jaded To Faded” EP is all about having that fun, but also the consequences that go along with that. I think the EP cover art really depicts the transition from the death of a “love life” to the birth of that “party life.”
