Ice Grill – Q&A Interview

Ice Grill

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

I am From Rochester N.Y. And I have been making hip hop music since 1995.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

My surroundings and Life Experiences Being raised in the inner city all my losses and gains give me inspiration. As well as my brief time spent in upstate corrections where I served 5 years. That gave me life experiences and access to people from all over New York Upstate included.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I use my music as an escape that reflects my life and experiences I choose not to glamorize a fictitious lifestyle.I also appreciate real bars so I don’t water down my music to fit in with current trends. And I Really Freestyle with no preparation hence #BlackChalk being put on Toca Tuesday on july 7th live props and all no searching thru my mobile device.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I have collaborated With SkyZoo, Chris Rivers Son Of Big Pun, Golden, Lil Eto, R.E.A.L, And I plan working with Action Bronson,Bodega Bamz,Taj Mahal,A.Z.,And Torae.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Raw Aggression and fluent punch lines real bars with deeper meaning that music that pushes the envelope and jumps out of the box. Basically passion and creativity and not conforming to what’s popular.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?  And who would you like to work with?

The majority of this project was Produced By the other half of #BlackChalk DjM-80.and I also have 1 song By INF! and 3 songs By Fith NY.And my influences are Dj Premier,Alchemist,Aarab Muzik,Havoc,Pete Rock, illmind,Just Blaze,And Trackmasters. And would love to work with any of the aforementioned producers.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Yes Im actually tightening up A few surprises but The next one to release that I can mention for sure is #BlackChalk Lost Tracks E.P. that will be entirely produced By D.J.M-80.I also Released A prequel to #BlackChalk Called GunPowder Produced By Kidd Called Quest.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of BLACKCHALK? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album/Mixtape Cover Art.

To be honest I asked everyone who purchased my last 2 albums what they wanted to hear from me there responses were hard bars real rap nothing commercial with fluff or filler. So I just dug into my experiences and let go every song came naturally I just let it flow and the results are evident thru the music. The cover reflects the mood of the music Grimy and gritty N.Y. Hip Hop.The cover Gives you that 90’s feel with a here and now flip representing the versatility of Ice Grill.
