“Dark Moon” Blends Hip Hop And Comics To Create Something Unique For Halloween

Dark Moon

While motion comics have been around for a long time in various forms, the majority of them are purposefully designed to provide an experience similar to a comic, with motion elements and music added to enhance the experience. ‘Dark Moon’, a motion comic series that was started last year and now they are putting out their third episode right before Halloween, has a different take on the motion comic experience. They designed the series with hip hop and electronic music as the focus of the series, and then found an amazing artist to compliment their musical landscapes and visually tell their sci-fi/horror story.

The story features Dante, a scientist living in the mid-21st century, who has developed rudimentary teleportation technology, and has to use it to help himself and a small group of people suvive a disaster on Earth, but the result is that they are transported to a dark, evil moon full of menacing creatures and mysterious events. All three of the currently available episodes (Dark Moon #3 is available on Oct. 29th) are completely free, with a print version and music soundtrack available for purchase if people like the experience and want more.

The creator of Dark Moon, Freematik, had this to say about the music elements in the series. “Without specifically meaning to do this, each episode follows a similar musical evolution, starting with very ambient elements, then moving to trip hop and atmospheric hip hop, finally culminating in more intense music such as dubstep for the battles, then mellowing back down at the end. Also, each episode has a great outro song to leave the reader with something dope to listen to on the way out of our universe!”

About Freematik:

Freematik works in music software development by day, and by night he produces music and visual art independently, and is best known for an album he made with an iPhone in 2010 that went viral, called “iMatik”, and a zombie-themed rap halloween anthem in 2012 featuring Rappin 4-Tay, called “Hustlevania”.
