Concept – Q&A Interview

Who you Concept is, let them know? Where are you from? How did your Hip Hop brand come about? What does the name Concept mean to you?

I’m from Indianapolis or “NapTown”. My brand came from me finding myself. You know I started with the name “Money Means” and then I went through some life changing experiences so I changed my rap name too. It means a lot to me but one thing I think of the most is I’m always thinking always using my mind in a creative way to come with something different you haven’t heard before.

We notice you spit a lot of love related topics and your style is almost 100% punchlines which is very creative. Give us a little background on why you choose to use a lot of love lines and your punchline style.

It’s dope you noticed that but I didn’t really choose that style I just started writing and I guess that was the result. But the lyrics come from a true and real place so I think that’s why the passion is there. Obviously, like any artist, I stretch the truth to make it sound a certain way but that’s for the creative process.

Congrats on success of your latest mixtape, “Pen & Paper Chronicles”. Feel free to breakdown the creative process of the project. (features, production, etc). Where can people find the project?

Thank you I really appreciate it. Honestly I was jus recording then one day I had about 30-40 songs that I’ve been recording for a new project and I was like man it’s time to pick some songs and drop a project. I wanted whatever I created to be personal and to come from a genuine place. Production came from Gummy Beatz mostly. I had worked with him on my other project that I released under “Money Means” and wanted to get more Beatz from him on my next one so I did. I picked beats that I thought were dope and wrote songs to them. Other producers on the project, The Vision, Redhooknoodles, HouseArrestMusic. I only have 3 people on the project, Kenny Jay, D-Money and Katie Staggz. I sent Kenny the “Too Long” beat and he fucked with it so we rolled with that. D-Money was over and I played him the “Hit Ya” beat the idea came instantly for that one. I was in the studio working on my first verse for “Workaholics” and Katie over heard the beat and wanted to hop on and after we did that one I asked her if she wanted to sing “Let It Ride” and she killed it. Are you planning on releasing any videos to complement ““Pen & Paper Chronicles””. Or are you going to let the record gravitate as an exclusive listening experience?

It’s funny you ask that, I just shot some scenes for a music video to “Take It Back” track 2 on the project. I would like to release 3 videos to really give the project some presence.

With this industry being so fast pace, being so busy promoting yourself, what advice do you have to those who are barely releasing their first record exactly what you just did, and trying to break into the business?

Stay consistent, work hard every single day and never give up. If you truly have a passion for it you should go for it.

How does social media playing a role in Concept’s success? How are fans / supporters helping your movement?

Honestly I’m jus my starting out so its ok lol but I have seen improvements recently so that’s a positive. I’m still branding myself and trying to let the people know who I am and if you listen it’s in my music.

With this being an underground hip hop site, we always ask this important question. What is your definition of “underground hip hop”?

Real. Passion. Love. It’s everything man it’s not fake it’s just real music you can connect and relate to.
