23 Years of Doggystyle (11/23/1993)

23 years ago yesterday (11/23/1993) Snoop Dogg released his classic studio debut album Doggystyle on Death Row Records. Produced by Dr. Dre, Warren G and Daz Dillinger, this highly anticipated album followed after the footsteps of Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, it continued the new “G-Funk” sound with samples of Zapp, Parliament Funkadelic, Blowfly and many more artist while sticking to the gangster rap style lyricism. It was one of Death Row Records greatest releases, selling 18 million units in total. Now there was some behind the scene drama with this album, Dr. Dre is credited as sole producer of Doggystyle but in fact also had production work from Warren G and Daz Dillinger. Dre allegedly paid Suge Knight, head of Death Row Records a large sum of money to put his and his name only on Doggystyle. Salute to Snoop Dogg for his impact in Rap and Hip-Hop
