Sweatshop Union – Oh My

Sweatshop Union is one of my all time favorite Canadian hip-hop groups, and unfortunately not nearly enough people know about them. For the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards Oh My won in the category for “best rap/hip-hop song”. This beautifully riveting work of art is off of their 2008 album Water Street, which is actually one of my favorite hip-hop albums to come out that year. Water Street contains a varied mix of songs ranging from average to some of the best you’ll ever hear. I’ll be posting more of my favorites from Sweatshop Union as time goes on. Also, if you’re interested here are the lyrics.

“Unfortunate for me, I couldn’t afford to be fortunate. Shit, more like the kid misfortune never missed. According to the landlord I’m poor as piss. Trying to get this poor a recording hit, but down low, it’s only shows supporting this.”

My name is Jake Bourey and for more of my reviews and other musings check out my blog at http://hiphopfightsback.com/.
