PJ – Q&A Interview

PJ ep cover

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Beats?

I was born in Poland, Lublin where I have lived for 24 years. At the current moment I live in UK. I began my music journey back in 2006 creating just for fun, and since 2009/2010 my work has been shown to more broaden public than friends. I have to admit, it took me a long time to reach what I describe the quality of music that I was aiming for; level that makes me satisfied enough to let my work be heard by the bigger public. I would never release anything that I would not believe was good in my taste, I am very self-critical therefore the bar is set very high, but I guess it has its own beauty…

What influences you in making Hip Hop music?

I think most importantly I let all of my emotions out and put them into my music, always sincerely showing what I feel at current moment, what I struggle with sometimes when talking directly about the emotions. Music is a non judgmental way of saying how I feel now, it is a relief and true passion, no doubts I cannot imagine life without it. Taking back time I remember doing and trying a bit of everything from hip hop culture- I was dancing, skateboarding, inline skating, graffiti painting, I was even beat boxing! Now I don’t have as much time as before, but sport and passion are always motivational forces to aim high and be “the better me” every day.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other Producers?

All of my productions are based on samples and voices that create a melodic line adding strong drums. They are rhythmic and thoughtful, I never use electronics. This is my passion that first of all I do for myself, never for a trend…

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

My productions can be seen as a collaborations with underground artist from USA and Poland, check out my Undercover EP where I have collaborated with bunch of top artists on my list that I always wanted and I am so grateful that I was able to invite them for my EP.

I don’t have any specific visions for near future collaborations, I think specific visions narrow creativity. Always open for collaboration, although I only do stuff that I do believe in!

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Music made with passion from the bottom of heart, no trends following or views numbers. Honest view on reality, music that one of its kind shows the world as it is not as we see on tv. Music only for aware receivers with no colouring, underground hip hop is not mainstream or trendy, it is just the truth.

Who are you Top 5 Producers of ALL TIME (Dead or Alive)

Dj Premier, J Dilla, 9th wonder, Pete Rock , Alchemist.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Right now we are promoting my collab with Hezekiah “On the way home”, check it out! At the moment I am working on two new EP materials fully produced by me. One of them will be a classical Detroit artist where the second one more experimental – some soulful stuff with an english accent! I am also planning on shooting second video from my Undercover EP soon!

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Undercover EP? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your EP Cover Art.

The name of the EP Undercover EP is because I’m doing a lot of things and trying to get my EP done. I was a bit undercover whilst making it, like I was doing some stuff that no one would know. I just want to sound like something back in the old days when I was growing up.

Most of the original names of the beats were the same names of the songs, so all the emotion I’ve put into the song when I was making it. It’s so the artist writing it could feel the emotions throughout and I think It would be a little bit helpful.
