The United Legion Of Doom And Their Conquest To Greatness

Founded in August 2010, the United Legion of DOOM is a creative collective of musicians, designers, architects, artists, and media specialists. The co-founders include, Drew “DJ Deuce” Carter, James “Rames” Roberts, and Jecorey “1200” Arthur. The collective was originally built on creating music, but since then has become a creative monopoly. Since being founded, five albums have been released under the collective’s name. Among those albums include, 1200’s SYMPHONY I, Nick B’s Transcendence, Hwang’s It Was Only Yesterday, and G. Stone’s NOLA. Currently, the Legion musicians are working on rapper Jordan Jetson’s debut album – Inner City Gods, singer Jazmyn Aria’s EP, DJ Deuce’s mixtape – LEGION, singer Tyler Dippold’s EP, and a regional tour.

Apart from musical ventures, the United Legion of DOOM has launched a branch for art, design, and fashion known as DOOM Designs. This art collective features painters, graphic designers, and upcoming architects who work on a slew of art projects for the Legion. Many of DOOM Designs’ works are featured during live concerts, accompanying 1200. DOOM Designs founder, Elmo, has recently partnered with Instruments of Hip Hop to create a grand scale interactive art project for a concert which will feature Jordan Jetson. Elmo is also the creator of the 1200 Mosaic Shirt Series. The shirts are based on a sculpture-sign, the 1200 MOSAIC DISKETTE, she helped create with DOOM Designs. The sculpture-sign displays “1200” and each letter was created using compact discs. The 1200 MOSAIC DISKETTE was first displayed at the Poorcastle Festival last summer. The festival included a bill of all local talent. 1200 was the only hip hop act who performed at either of the two festival days; and received nothing but positive responses from the spectators at the show. Designer and youngest member of the Legion at age 17, Justin “Juss” Summers, is currently working on a clothing line titled L.I.V.I.N. (Life Is Visions Imitating Nothing).

Perhaps the most diverse venture the Legion has partaken in was their involvement with AMPED – the Academy of Music Production Education and Development. AMPED is a youth program that teaches kids vocal performance, instrumental performance, audio production, and audio engineering. 1200 is the Program  Director and got the Legion involved with the last AMPED session. Jazmyn Aria, Elmo, and Jordan Jetson all volunteered as music mentors to help guide kids on their path to becoming performers. Earlier this month AMPED ended their fall session with a College Fair & Festival. Seven colleges from around the Louisville area came to give presentations and promote college readiness. DJ Deuce accompanied the kids’ with their self-produced tracks as they performed in the Louisville Mayor’s Gallery. The festival also featured local instrument group, In Lightning, and 1200. As 1200 closed the show, he invited the AMPED kids on stage to perform their original song “Street Smart” but also to rap on his song “1992.”

The Legion’s mass communication branch known as DOOM Media was recently founded by Kendrick “KP” Pennington. He is an upcoming videographer who will be working on short films and concert footage for the Legion. While the United Legion of DOOM seems to be just another independent label, it is much more than that. Through music, art, design, and education, the United Legion of DOOM is a power house of creative formality.
