K. Mar – Q&A Interview

K.Mar

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

My stage name is K. Mar. Obviously, lol. I was born in Clarksville, TX. Raised in Colorado Springs, CO. I’ve been in the hip hop scene since I was 16. Started off as a hobby. But recently I’ve taken it more seriously and invested in myself. I also Produce and GFX. I started out writing poetry when I was around 9.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

My life in general. My dreams. All the hard times I’ve been through. I’ve been from TX to CO to CA. BACK to TX and BACK to CO. Lol. I’ve seen and done many things that make me who I am today and I believe that shows in my music and will continue to show.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

My music is different. I don’t try to follow trends or impress people. I just DO ME. I don’t make music in hopes of getting a deal and making it big. I make music to showcase my intellect and creative processes. I’m not trying to fit a certain “genre” or “Style”. I just want to make good, REAL music… & maybe inspire a few more people along the way.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I used to collab with my boy JSmooth back in 2011. We made a few tracks, one that got featured as well. I also threw a few verses on my boy Vandetta’s mixtape. Should be dropping soon. I would like to collab with Nipsey Hussle, Childish Gambino, and J. Cole. I admire their styles. But I’m willing to collab with anybody man. The more people I network and create with, the more I learn about this industry and music in general.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

My definition of “Underground Hip Hop” is the stuff that they don’t put on cameras. The hustle. Independent. Backpack rapping. Battle rap. Pretty much anything that isn’t “In the Lime Light” is considered “Underground”. In my opinion.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?

And who would you like to work with?
My boy Mic B. from back in the day actually inspired me to start producing. I like Chase N. Cashe. As you can see from my last mixtape. He produced nearly half of it. Lol. Johnny Juliano is a BOMB producer. One of my biggest influences.

I actually have a go-to producer. My boy Matcy P. He produced my last two singles, “New Shvt” & “Get It”. I plan on having him produce one of my upcoming projects. It’s in the works right now actually.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Actually, Yeah. I have two projects I’m working on.
First of all, I’m dropping my next single, “Watch” produced by my boy Rich I.E on Valentine’s Day. Lookout for that.
I’m actually working on an Instrumental EP, “SoFuvkingUneEQ”, dropping on iTunes April 1st. I’m working on my next mixtape, “Play Time 2”. Set release date is on May 30th. That’s TBD though.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of #TheMission? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Mixtape Cover Art.

I talked about wanting to be back in Colorado for awhile back the day when it came to my music. I always said that I would be back here. Well I am and i just wanted to let people know that I’m here and that I’m taking my music seriously and I’m on a mission to be successful.

Funny thing about my Cover Art. I was just roaming through some old pics I took from back when my little homie graduated high school.

My being the clown I am, took a picture of my shades on his dad’s counter and it had a partially full glass of wine behind it. I thought it looked cool, so I snapped it.

Well when I was going through those photos. I came across it and it just seemed like what success looks like. Come home. Take your shades off. Pour a glass of wine and just enjoy the moment. No stress, no worries. So I just threw it in Photoshop and PRESTO.! Mixtape cover.
