Max Julez – “Super Skillz” (Official Video)

Julian Lamont Campbell (born Oct. 4th 1976 ), Better known by his stage name Max Julez, is an American record producer, rapper ,Dj and entrepreneur. He is the founder and current CEO of Orchard Greenhouse Records and the Art of Hip-Hop Productionz. Born in Ann Arbor and raised in Monroe, Michigan and Denver, Colorado during his teen years, he has lived in Monroe, MI for much of his professional career.

Raise by a single parent on welfare during the height of the drug-era, Max Julez discovered his love of Hip-hop when he found himself transplanted from the blue collar city of Monroe, MI… just outside the shadows of Motown, to the laid back westcoast lifestyle of the east-side village projects of Denver, CO.

“Some people believe in love at first sight, what about love at first sound”…Yeah I was in love with the sound…wit the atmosphere…wit the moves…it was electric…Our parents called it break-dancing…but to us it was life…we had nothing better to do than perfect our styles…we formed a lil crew, the 2 best brotha’s and the 2 best Chicano’s…up until that point we was rivals, but after many a battle ended in a draw we decided to join forces…We entered this national breaking contest that came threw Denver…We didn’t win, we lost to some crew out of N.Y.C., they had this dude named Crazy Legs…but everybody showed us love cause we was nice, or maybe cause I was 8…and so the B-Boy was born.

At around the same time, when my older cousin would go out and hang, I would sneak into there rooms and play with the records…Planet Roc, Dont Stop It, 10 speed, the message…2 record players, 2 stereo receivers and a tape deck…Id get lost in those records…taken away from the poverty 3 and 4 minutes at a time. I cant explain it, but I still get the same feelings, when I hear a nice piece of music, like nothing else exist but you and that song. I still get chills when I listen to those records…and even though I managed to ruin every record in the house …The B-Boy became the DJ…

At the tail end of the B-boy era, we found ourselves with a bunch of records… and just like everybody else, we started recording the breaks onto cassettes, looping them so it would repeat and my cousin and his crew could recite rhymes over them. Meanwhile I’m watching, listening, takin in every rhyme, every battle, every dis…dissecting them…what made em say ohh or why did they say ahh…beggin my cuz to let me in the group as a MC, I knew I was nice yet he wouldn’t give me the chance to prove it. It took about 6 months of persistence, some ill planning and a dash of luck and a sprinkle of cheating…until finally they started working on this track” Beam me Up Scotty” on some startrek ish…I knew this was my time…I heard em takin bout the track a week earlier so I had already writing a verse…My cousin said to me “Alright cuz go ahead and come up with something and we’ll see what’s up”. History…So then the DJ became an MC…

The pattern for most MC’ is basically the same…you come up battling and free-styling, you start writing and dropping tracks over industries beats…the differences is we found obscure records that nobody ever heard of…and everybody would already assume I made the beats, seeing that I was the DJ, so we started telling people that I made those tracks…which was all good until late 97′ when one of the homey’s asked me to make him a beat…Damn…Yeah I had a little studio set up at the spot, and I was the king of looping samples… but I had never actually made a original beat….So I had to come up with something and I did..but my homey said the beat was garbage but what I didn’t know was that he made beats too and he had a couple things he could show me…I basically hibernated in studio for months after that…. except to go to work…Then out of the blue my homey shows up one day…I had a couple tracks playing that I was working on…my homey said ” Damn dog who u get these beat from”…I said ” I made em” he laughed and said “yeah right” so I says “Yeah Right”…so the B-boy that became the DJ, then became the MC, who became the Producer…and his name is Max Julez.
