Q&A With Rising Underground Hip Hop Artist D.Edge

Hey D.Edge! We clearly remember the project iLLuminatd!!! That was definitely a solid project along with memerable production by Parker! .How have you been? Since the last time we chatted, how has your music career progressed? Any cool stories?

I honestly just have been working hard on the DevSeason series that reflects different moods. I’ve gained new fans that see the growth which is evident comparatively on this tape to my previous tape iLLuminatd. I’m honestly more confident and feel like the hard work is paying off.

Tell us the idea and inspiration behind your new EP DevSeason? And since its release, how has the engagement been so far? I really like the song “Savior” (Prod. by Parker)!!! Hell of a track right here with another banging beat by Parker!

The idea of the DevSeason series is to showcase my versatility with different moods and vibes. I’m a student of the game so I’ve studied guys like Big Daddy Kane, Fabolous, Jay-Z and Biggie seeing how they could adapt to any record. I don’t want to be a niche artist, I want to be creative and work on anything that comes to me. DevSeason has gotten really good reviews and people really see the growth. But, I have records in the stash that will blow this first EP away in terms of lyricism, flow and concepts. This DevSeason is very similar to my other projects- pretty much what fans expect from me conceptually. I want to show that I am human and that I’m more than just angry about current situations. You have to realize that people want to relate to you on a day-to-day basis while still dropping gems.

Looks like you have been staying busy, putting out important projects and videos and making sure you stay relevant. Tell us how your week works? How often do you work on music?

I have a job which is very time-consuming and gives me a limited work life balance. However, when you want it badly as I do, you push yourself to make your dreams a reality. I usually get less than 6 hours of sleep, but the question is how much do you want it? Also, there’s times I make sacrifices in my social life, but again I do this because I love it and accept the challenge of being responsible shaping generations. I pretty much work on music every day, even if it’s a few bars here and there throughout the day.

Please breakdown the creative process of your music video King$. Dope video right here.

King$ was a record that knew I was going to make once I heard the beat Parker sent me. I knew it was a NY hip hop record I wanted to slaughter with punchlines and wordplay- so I got my homie SMTH who was a dope contrast to my verse. The King$ visual was shot by Yinka Soda who had the idea of shooting on the train, rooftop and streets to make it more of a real hip hop feel bridging the gap. We wanted it to be dope and aggressive because we aren’t too cool to speak real shit.

Any more projects you’re working on? Any tours or shows planned soon? Ever thinking of swinging by Los Angeles? Maybe drop a video MIC SESSION for the BLOG?

I’m working on other DevSeason EP’s currently, and another one should be out probably mid next month. After a couple of Volumes of the DevSeason series are done, I will definitely do more shows. I’m actually planning to go out west later this year or early next year, so yes I definitely will do a MIC SESSION for the blog. I will keep you posted..

Out the box type question, If it came down to 1 ALBUM only, what underground Hip Hop album would you consider THE BEST OF ALL TIME!!!???……One 1 album you can choose.

Well, I’d choose Big L’s Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous because it was gritty, NYC personified, punchlines, crazy delivery and wordplay. Big L’s one of the greatest emcees and it’s a shame we didn’t get to see him reach his peak. He’s also one of my favorite rappers period and I’ve been told we have similar cadences.

Where do you see yourself in 5 Yrs?

In five years, I see myself at the top of the game running it. I will be the new face of NYC hip hop. I feel like I’m the one that’s versatile to take it over like Hov, Nas, Jay and others did. Elle Varner and I will be the new “It” couple. Also, I will be running my own businesses like Cube, Hov, Dre and Diddy. If Lavar Ball spoke Lonzo being a Laker in existence, why can’t my visions turn into reality? Lol
