Wabaki – “Nimbus” (Album Review)

Not many artists make it big coming out of Colorado; however, their is a first time for everything it appears to be a proven statement by the new Federal Heights sensation known as Wabaki. With his love for Hip-Hop and Anime, Wabaki crafts a lane of his own in the clouds with the release his new album titled, “Nimbus”.

‘Nimbus’ is inspired by the mystical cloud from the popular anime, ‘Dragonball Z’. Wabaki hops on the beat and rides high from the beginning of the project. Paying homage to the classic anime with references of metaphor-related wordplay like the anime’s road to the afterlife known as Snake Way and the show’s protagonist Goku. Wabaki speaks on love and revenge in the first chapter of the project on tracks “Snake Road” and “Passionfruit”. While the bars are affectionate, the newcomer’s sound is perfect pitch and intoxicating. Using pain of love’s loss, Wabaki’s story-telling leaves you wanting more from the recording artist.

The sound of the album is different, it’s a traditional vibe with a 90s Hip-Hop twist. It’s refreshing how Wabaki spits over a smooth sound wave that takes us back to the Golden Age of Hip-Hop but doesn’t simply imitate the old school. It reinvents it.

The production sticks to the concept of the album. Not bouncing all over the spectrum, it follows like water and leads to a ending that is award-winning cinematic. Tracks like “Danny Phantom”, “Neptune Jazz”, and “Onigumo” is tailor-made originals that deliver a style for Wabaki all his own. Separating himself from everyone else in Hip-Hop.

Although it is creative how Wabaki’ 12-track album is heavily Dragon Ball driven and never gets old from beginning to end. Listen to ‘Nimbus’ is like watch Saturday Morning Kung-Fu films. Filled with excitement, passion, and impact. Storytelling fuels the project while the production maintains a steady pace that delivers a theatrical plot, climax, and ending.

Similar to a film, Wabaki closes out the album with a happy ending on the track, “Dende”. Another reference, with his voyage complete, Wabaki rides off his team and enjoys a well-deserved upbeat mission accomplished finale. Proud, Wabaki looks into the horizon for the next adventure that listeners will be eagerly awaiting at the end of the track.

Definitive, Wabaki transcends into a new realm of Hip-Hop that intriguing to explore with every line. Nimbus is different, special, and unique.
