Q&A With Rising Colorado’s Blacq Label Hip Hop Group Wabaki

Wow.  Wabaki!  We really enjoyed your latest album  “Nimbus” , one of our main contributors BOOM even gave it and 9/10!!  How long have you been making music?  What area code(s) do you rep!? And how did you get your emcee name?

We’ve only been making music for around 2 years, of course we gotta rep the, 303, the 720 and the whole CO state but we got our name cuz we were watching Tokyo drift and we that the word “uwabaki” sounded tight, but turns out it means shoe in Japan. XD but we shortened it to “wabaki” and here we are now.

Us being a LA based BLOG, we don’t really know much about the Colorado underground Hip Hop scene!!  To know there is an up and coming artist like yourself reppin the CO, just goes to show the state is in good hands!!!  Tell us about the scene out there, and how has your state influenced you’re in any way?

It being Colorado I guess the best thing to call it would be “green”. The scene is positive and you can see it reflected into our music. Were just on the green and making healthy soundin shit. We might not have an ocean but we got big waves out here.

Lets face it, social media since 2015 has grown tremendously, especially IG!!! Tell us how is your IG grind is looking, and how have you been able to keep up with the high demand on social media? Do you have a website??

We’re not into promoting ourselves that much, we do like keep low-key, but we throw pics on the gram from time to time to keep people up to date. And we’re looking into making a website going into 2018

Please breakdown the creative process to your latest album “Nimbus”?

Listen man, we’re just weebs wit creativity. We’re heavily influenced by the wavefrom japan which is an obvious tell listening to the album. But the process is simple:
Somebody makes a beat-
Then the lyricist learns the vibe-
And then as a crew we work together to push the track into the right direction/ master.

How often do you perform live?? Any indie DIY tours in the works?

Everytime we spit on the mike it’s like a live performance. We attack every song with that level of intensity and energy. You perform how you practice but that being said we don’t have tours or anything right now, we’re just cookin in the lab but definitely be on the lookout for shows coming into 2018.

How do you feel about the whole XAN & LEAN trend these kids nowadays are on!!!..LOL???  Be honest, do you use some of that stuff??..LOL

Like I said we really just on the green, and the Xan and lean trend from what we’ve see is at a decline so we’re pretty content staying healthy and consistent.

What you got cooking next? Any special for the new year 2018!!??

Oh yeah!! Always cooking in the lab 🍳. Whether a feature or an original mix. Be on the look out for “Chilldorado” and “Jukebox”, just some E.P’s we got in the works.

Where do see guys see yourselves in 2015? (2023)?

In 5 years we see ourselves at the top. We visualize it everyday. With having that vision, it motivates us to push out those million dollar tracks for only a $1.99. Honestly it only matter of time before we get there 😁.
