AUK5 – “Second Star To The Right” (Album Review)

Los Angeles is breeding ground for underground Hip-Hop’s next big star. Extremely competitive, the West Coast constantly produces some of the biggest and brightest breakout talents decided by the fans like rising recording artist Auk5. Praised for his unorthodox wordplay and impactful message, the L.A.-native drops his new collective, entitled, ‘Second Star to the Right’.

The project’s production is soul-searching at best. From time-to-time, ‘Second Star to the Right’ sound is unclear, miscalculated, and awkward at times as Auk5 tries to find his groove. Challenging, the production starts out disappointing as it is clearly audible to notice the distances from Auk5 subject matter and the beatsmith’s direction. Finding his sound in the end, Auk5 awakens the productions prowess on impacting tracks, “One with the Darkness”, “Lost Boys Story”, and “Reflection”.

Lyrically, Auk5 shows immense talent late in the game, but it’s not how you start but how you finish, and on ‘Second Star to the Right’ he finished strong. Auk5 dispatches plenty of thought-provoking content but a lot of slick play on words. Auk5 performance on the new project gives fans a little bit of everything and it will appear unsatisfying to some in the beginning but rewarding to most in the end.

Unbearable at first, however, ‘Second Star To The Right” gradually entertain lyrically as the project duration journies on. Auk5 sing-a-long abilities need a complete overhaul or removed altogether as they quickly become his biggest drawback. Advising to enlist R&B talent to supply the accurate vocals necessary for the song’s approach in the future.
