Sean Chris “Q&A Interview”

Sean Chris

-Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
Born Sean Christopher Spooner in Raleigh North Carolina. I played college basketball ( UNCG &CofI) but dropped out to chase my music dreams. From doing the Grindin beat on the lunch tables, to freestyling with my boys, you can say I’ve been making hiphop since a child, but American Dreamin is my freshman project.

-What influences you in making Hip Hop?
Life. Life is always going to have its ups and downs, good and bad ya know? Thats what makes it worth living. I try to capture all these moments, and give the listeners relatable music.

-Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
One word honesty. Where I see a lot of MCs lets just say “embelishing” ( lol) in their rhymes to seem entertaining. I feel like my life is entertaining enough to keep the listeners ear. My lyrical content is going to keep the avid listener impressed and my truths about the hood hopefully touches souls.

-Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
Aside for teaming up with DJ Seizure outta Miami to host, theres no collabs on the freshman mixtape. Its 15 tracks of me ( lol) but looking forward… Jay-z has been an idol of mine forever. Definitely JCole, he plays for the home team. Kendrick, Pharrell, Breezy, and Jhene Aiko would all be great to work with and learn from.

-Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Undergroud music is more pure. I feel artist are less likely to conform to conmercial trends ya know? Theres no pressure of a label trying to influence your music. You can be you.

-Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
I just do my thing. Whatever sounds and feels good to me I rock with. I get beats from different people, or online and do everything else myself. That way its done the way I want it done. That way I dont have to worry about people not wanting to be up with me at 4 or 5 in the morning getting a track right.

-Any current or future projects you are promoting?
Currently, promotion for American Dreamin’ is vital. The follow up mixtape is in the works, but I need more people to hear this one. So, im taking my money and going on a promotion tour. 6 Cities. Charlotte NC, Miami FL, D.C, Atlanta, New York City, L.A. I expec t to hit a lot of college campuses and it should be fun. Video vlogs will highlight these trips.

-Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of American Dreamin? What was the idea or concept description about your Mixtape Art Cover?
American Dream was really reflective ya know? There was a lot of looking back being honest with myself about a lot of things I had been ashamed of as a child, like being poor or my moms being on drugs.

If you look into detail, the cover is me with my hands up in front of a police car with the police helicopter off to the side with the american flag and the big city in the back drop. American Dreamin dropped prior to the Mike Brown situtation, but thats exactly the idea for the cover ya know? Im just a black man trying to live the American Dream and America itself is the biggest obstacle.

-Where can we find your music and info?
The mixtape is on Datpiff, coast2coast, 24kmixtapes to name a few. My soundcloud is seanchris919, a lot of freestyles get released here. seanchris_mafia on instagram follow the kid.

-Any shout outs?
First and foremost I have to shout out God. Everything thats happening wouldnt even be possible. Everybody rocking with the M.A.F.I.A movement and my city Raleigh for showing mad love.
