Mixtape Review: “The Artist” By NTG
There are many perks in blogging about Hip Hop all day, and networking with great independent artists from around the globe. It’s really refreshing when you come across somebody like NTG, a female emcee part of Ntune Entertainment Group, an independent label out of Philly. Her latest mixtape “The Artist” was released back in July of 2015, and it’s still circulating on the playlist of many of her fans. Consisting of 36 songs, including a bonus track, NTG gives us a glimpse of her life experiences with consistent flows and cohesive lyrics over hard hitting beats.
After listening to “The Artist” mixtape front to back, I feel NTG really emphasized on being able to fit the sound of the past 3 decades of Hip Hop into one project, resonating to all type of fans. There is something for those 90’s era boom bap and gangster rap heads, something for those 2k era southern music fans who love those hard hitting beats, and definitely something for those craving that modern type of music. The artwork and design layout of the mixtape could have been a little better in my opinion, but the music definitely will kill that thought once you listen.
“Breath” and “Last” freestyle tracks on this project were particularly my favorites, and insanely lyrical. It’s kinda hard to believe we barely even heard of her until a few weeks ago. “The Artist” is definitly something you need to download, and best part about it, it’s free!
