AWALL (Bronx, NY) – “Q&A Interview”
Tell us a little about yourself
I was born and raised in the Bronx. I started rapping when I saw other kids spitting rhymes at school during lunch. I started rehearsing and writing my own rhymes at home and won freestyle battles. I started to take my music seriously at the advice of one of my co-workers. I’m also an actor. comedian and writer.
Musically, who are your influences who paved the way for your Hip Hop push?
Tupac, Styles P, Jay-Z, Nas, Biggie Smalls, 50 Cent, Big Pun and The Lost Boys.
Describe the music, and what separates you from other artists?
My music represents diversity. It’s like a mood rock, it never stays the same. Whatever mood you are in there’s something for that mood. One thing all my songs have in common is that it’s all good music.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would like to collab with in the near future?
I have collaborated with Hocus 45th, Dice Game and Lazier. I would like to collaborate with Jay-Z, Madonna, Celine Dion, The Locks, T.I., Sade, Young Jeezy, Prince, 3 Doors Down, Cory Gunz and Brittney Spears.
Definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Underground hip hop is about somebody out there doing it all on their own. It’s music that you make when you make it and it’s out you can say, “That’s all me.” It’s that real grind.
Production wise, who would you like to work with?
Swiss Beatz, Ne-Yo, Pharrell, Dr. Dre, Lazier
Promoting any current or future projects?
Yes, I’m promoting my self-titled album, AWALL. I’m also promoting my acting and comedy. Check out my sketches on Instagram @the_real_mr_hehe. My Instagram isn’t your ordinary Instagram profile. I capture moments of my life while exposing my humor. I’m also on YouTube under NextGreatRapper. The videos are made up of 15 second clips and turned into a series on YouTube.
Describe the creative process in making your music?
When I first hear a beat I just mumble a tune to the beat. I already know how I want the flow to be. I don’t mumble words I mumble a tune. I set my flow then I write that flow. What I say in those lyrics comes from the feeling of the beat. Whatever feeling hits me first and whatever feelings feel good with the melody. It’s fun to be honest.
