The Bed-Stuy section of Brooklyn, New York has a reputation for being the home of great artists such as Jay Z and the Notorious B.I.G. The reputation continues its truth in being the birthplace of R&B great, Andre Pope. From an early age, he was trained in performing arts where he studied dance, and perfected his vocal ability. His training shifted from dance to being a full-time vocalist, which led him to major in Music at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus. His stage credits include performing at Showtime At The Apollo, where he won twice with his former R&B group Mr. Jak. Due to the untimely death of the group’s bass singer, they parted ways and Pope ventured out to become a solo artist. Finding comfort in Gospel music, he opened up for big names such as Vicki Winans and Dottie Peoples. Even though Gospel music gave him comfort, his passion was still in Hip Hop/R&B. Constant recording and performing in New York, and his new hometown of Richmond Virginia, led him to connect with Kirth Atkins, a music veteran and CEO of Pioneer Records. The experience of Kirth and the musical intelligence of Pope will prove to be a dominating force in the music industry, giving him a place in R&B history.
