ZAINA – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making music?
My name is Zaina and I am a Singer/Songwriter. I’ve been singing and making music professionally for the past 5 years now. I was born in Bronx, NY, but moved to Maryland, right outside of Washington, DC where I grew up.
What influences you in making R & B Music?
I loved R&B Music since I could remember. I grew up in the 90s where R&B was the highlight of the music industry. I was and still am and R.Kelly fan. But I love the legends, from Marvin Gaye to Chaka Khan.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
I feel I speak for most women in the ARTS. I write from my heart. Living in NYC, I fell in love, having more than one job and sometimes not having enough money to eat. But still my desire for music continues to grow and encourage me to work harder. I love what I do and hope to make a big impact in today’s music. And what separates me… I would see nothing, because every MC I know is always grinding.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
On my new single “Temporary” I collaborate with a good friend JT Maple who is an Artist in NY and in the near future I want to collab with everyone in the Pop/Hip Hop world such Kanye West, Sia, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and more.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Underground HipHop is a stepping-stone for up-and-coming artist like myself. Underground helps take my music to the next level.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
Having great production is a big deal. I’d start with Quincy Jones, I just love his work, he changed music from Michael Jackson’s album “Thriller” to producing “The Wiz”. He is incredible. I love using live instruments because it gives an organic feel to the music. Most of my projects come from the use of live instruments. Currently I’m working with MelloThaProducer, who is incredible producer and I’m planning to work with a live band soon.
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
Yes, expect to hear more music. I have a new single called “Think About Me” which will be coming out soon.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of TEMPORARY The Music Video?
I wrote this song with a friend JT Maple a few years ago. During the time, I wrote a song about a boy who I used to date when I was in College, who wasn’t serious about our relationship. Since the lyrics were an intimate/conversional song, I wanted the video to relate to the lyrics. So, I had an idea to shoot the video in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. I asked a friend to help me shoot the video and he picked different spots where I can speak directly to my audience through beautiful visuals.
Where can we find your music and info?
My song is now live on iTunes, Spoify, GooglePlay, Youtube, Xbox Music and more.
