James Data – “The Data Files” (Instrumentals)

The Data Files

Following the well received releases of “Soul Search’n and Survival Series 11355 under the name Jam DOT during Hip Hop’s 90s Golden Era, James Data spent time honing his skills as a Producer and DJ working with several underground artists out of his Queens N.Y. neighborhood. After finishing college James decided to officially change his stage name from Jam DOT to James Data and started work on his first album.

With the ever changing sound of music and advancements in technology James Data developed a sound and style that not only included an Akai MPC and s950 but also incorporates the use of several different DAWs. This combination has given birth to tracks like “Trapped Inda Bass,” “Get Ready Again” and “U Know Bobbie,” a diverse texture of sample styled New York Hip Hop with an exploration into electronic sound. From the beginning James Data has always embraced a DIY approach to music as one of the founders of 456 Records. “The Data Files” follows in that spirit of independence both reatively and in business with “The Data Files” being James Datas first Official digitally released project.

Musically, James Data expands his pallet by adding subtle moments of (glitch-ish) tones through out the album while retaining a gritty and balanced vibe. On tracks like “U Know Bobbie” and “Trapped Inda Bass,” dark keys and spacey synths set up an interstellar voyage to a far away galaxy. While in your face drums on tracks like “Log One” and “Get eady Again” are sure to teleport you back to a time when the SP1200 was king. “The Data Files” over all is sure to evoke an array of emotion in just under 30 minutes.
