Smitt – Q&A Interview
Thanks for giving us an opportunity to interview you Smitt! For the peeps who haven’t heard of you, where are you from, and how long have you been making music?
Well first let me say thank you for taking your time out to have me on your blog. For the people who haven’t heard of me I’m Smitt straight out of South Side Jamaica Queens, New York and I’ve been making music for about 20 years now.
Where does your stage name originate from?
Originate well it’s from my last name Smith, but my name I will say has matured to what is now from Lil Smitty to Smitty to K.Smitt to just Smitt. I say as I matured my name matured with me.
We noticed you recently released the new single “Want Me” featuring Nakuu, how did the song come about? Is it gonna be featured on any future project?
I needed a hit song to deliver to the label for my debut. And I came across this production and I was able to put what I saw in 50 shades of grey and what I been through in my own experience to make this song. This single could make my future project, while in the process make my EP “NYS”. So we’ll see.
How are the fans reacting to the single?
I think my female fans are having the greatest reaction from this single… cause this single paints a vivid suspension of how mentally and physically of wanting somebody. Just put you in that sexy atmosphere. I have gained more Twitter followers, also well as likes on my music page. And if you haven’t followed me or liked my page I’m going to need you to do that now. Follow me at @ksmitt3 on Instagram and Twitter and search for Smitt on Facebook for my fan page.
Who are your musical influences? Any specific artist you give your credit to?
I would have to start off by saying the late great notorious B.I.G. I could remember on weekends being at my dads house and him DJing playing biggie songs and I rap it word for word. Any biggie song. The next artists I would give credit to would have to be the Lost Boys and 50 cent. Reason being we were all born and raised in the same neighbor hood.
In a few words, how would you describe your style of music to a first time listener?
I say “Real”. I rarely write or put out anything I haven’t done or experienced. I’m versatile I can do any genre of hip hop. I can also say conscience lyrical rapper because I love to make people think about what I am saying.
The question we ask everyone, what is your definition of Underground Hip Hop?
Underground Hip Hop is urban expressionism which gives us the right to artistically depict what goes on in your life without customizing ourselves to main stream industry fads or trends.
