Q&A With Hip Hop Artist Gabriel a.k.a. Dirty Bizz
Hey Gabriel a.k.a. Dirty Bizz, we would like to thank you for your contribution to underground Hip Hop and keeping the culture alive! I really enjoyed your new album “Heat Exhaustion”! Please tell us what exact part of AZ are you from? How long have you been making music?
Well, I currently just moved to Scottsdale area having spent the past two years in Casa Grande, AZ. Casa Grande…. I’ve seen a lot in my time! Lived all over the country and seen some of the best and worst parts of the US! Pinal County in AZ is something else! An unexplainable drug infested doorway to the Devil’s lair! Had a heavy influence on the album for sure! However, I’ve been making music since my early teen years in Charlotte, NC before I moved to AZ. “Blazeburg” was our squad out there! Damn, must have been about ten of us in the beginning. A very talented Squad of ORIGINAL mc’s! Back in day off the dome battling days. We were heavy into the Charlotte Hip Hop scene from late 90’s- 2009ish when we all grew up and had to get jobs. However, thru my now retired drug career I went off on my solo career which is finally beginning to thrive!
What influenced you to become a Hip Hop artist? What were the main factors that got you into, quote on quote, “Underground Hip Hop”?!
I’ll never forget hearing Redman “Wut the Album” and “Muddy Waters”! I was born in 1983 so I was fairly young. Now Cypress Hill “Temples Of Boom”, that album locked me into my headphones! I started constructing my own rhymes. In 10th Grade I met my best friend/DJ/MC/Partner in Rhyme Colin Graham. He took me to his parents house after school where he had two tech 12’s and just started SHREDDING them! Talented mofo. Did his senior exit on why the turntable is an instrument! We’d drive around smoking blunts freestyling which led to the beginning of building a studio where we’d spit heat into the worst mics possible LOL.. The beginning began.
Your style and rhyme scheme is super raw, hard-hitting and ORIGINAL. How important is it for you to stay ORIGINAL? How would you describe your style?
Originality is everything! This is HIP HOP! MUSIC! I think it’s impossible to be truly successful without an original sound. Sure It’s easy to copy somebody’s style. Turn on the radio If you can handle consistent UNEDUCATED OFF BEAT GARBAGE! I think there’s a lot of people knocking people’s style lately especially w this mumble trap crap! I have not been impressed with Hip Hop in a while with the exception of few! Staying original is a must! True Hip Hop is art created by a producer and an artist who communicate! Something you don’t see a lot these days! My style is my style. It’s stories of my life delivered in my own lil raw, lyrical, DIVERSE, and powerful way!
Looks like you went in super heavy production for your album “Heat Exhaustion” How did that decision come about to have C-Lance produce the entire project? How did you like working with such an extremely talented underground Hip Hop producer! Seems to me that your style fits perfect with C-Lance beats!
Before I started working with Lance I was working with Hanto, a producer in France. Heat Exhaustion was underway. However, beats with Hanto were leased and he and I weren’t communicating like an artist and producer should (in my opinion)! Jedi Mind Tricks has definitely been one of my biggest influences! I bought a beat from Lance, sent him a rough draft the next day and it’s been magic ever since! I was truly honored to work with him! He and I instantly clicked and definitely share the same passion for true Hip Hop along with drive and motivation that people sometimes love/hate about us. Musicians like ourselves live lives that are hard for people to understand. But hey, the cost of ambition is a lot of priceless things.. But straight up! This is HIP HOP! Lance is by far the most UNDERATED producer in the game! The man is a beat making genius who is a long ways from his prime! His beats represent true hip hop! My style is nothing but true hip hop! He and I will be working together for a long time! Stay tuned….
Tell us about the creative process for your new album “Heat Exhaustion”! You featured some real underground Hip Hop legends!!! Copywrite, Colin Gramz & Slaine of La Coka Nostra! How did those collabs come about?
Well, lol Copywrite. Lets just say I “Murder Everything” just like Copy told me once. Copywrite is a battle rapper however I knew what I was getting into. Did he know though? Never underestimate an underground mc.. Something he can quote me on.. lol na we cool though. We may go at again in the future. This time ill set it off first.
Slaine has been a huge influence on my career! Track we did is powerful! He and I both have past issues with substance abuse and instantly clicked on the track. He’ll be on my second album that he and I are currently working on. This ones already on another level!
Colin Gramz.. One of the most talented cats I’ve ever met! He’s my best friend/partner in rhyme from way back! Been hard to work together lately because he has a full-time job on the east coast and I’m in AZ.. But when we get together we make magic!
In 2017, who is on your own personal music rotation playlist!? Any new artists you are listening to?
Honestly If I’m not being a dad I’m in the studio creating so I don’t really listen to much and really haven’t been too impressed with “Hip Hop” lately.
Any new projects and videos you are working on? Planning on a tour anytime soon? Just a reminder, when you visit LA, make sure to stop by our DTLA HQ and drop your video MIC SESSION!!!
Always working!! Lance and I are already working on a second album that will drop late next year! This album will be on another level Some big features planned and after Heat Exhaustion, Lance and I are truly working together and have developed a strong relationship that all artists and producers should share. No tour planned as of now but recently did a show with Rakim (an absolute honor) and will be opening for Slaine and Termanology Nov. 13th In Phoenix. And yes! I will most definitely come see you guys soon in LA!
Out the box type question, If it came down to 1 ALBUM only, what underground Hip Hop album would you consider THE BEST OF ALL TIME!!!???……One 1 album you can choose.
Violent By Design
