Joey Rolo is a 20 year old college student based out of Santa Clara, California. An avid music fan he began listening to artists like Aretha Franklin and Shania Twain when his mom would play old tapes in the car. When he developed his own preferences for music he would listen to artists such as Kanye West, 50 Cent, Eminem, E-40 and Outkast. He first began rapping at the age of 13 with some friends who would take time to listen. His current influences include Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, J. Cole and Ab-Soul.
Growing up in a somewhat suburban town, Joey’s sounds do not take the loud sounds of the more urban/trap realm of hip-hop, instead they are lighter toned songs with melodies and harmonies that come together to form this new funky style of hip-hop that gives the listener a taste of the 90s, really adding to the retro feel. A member of the crew “Audiosoap,” Joey Rolo collaborates with other local artists as well as fellow team members Kompound and Vercetti Lake.  Rolo now lives in Seattle as he continues to study at Seattle University working towards his Bachelor’s degree. He continues to create projects independently even after receiving praise from labels such as Def Jam and Interscope Records.

Inspired by funky rhythms and a love for percussion, Joey Rolo has just finished his second project entitled “Life’s a Bitch” a tape separate from his other tape series “For The Love.” This tape includes production from Dom $olo and Kelly Portis, both very talented up and coming producers. Watch out for Joey Rolo as he plans to begin more serious marketing plans to get some big time exposure.
