Sending Large Files

When collaborating with artists around the world, at times sending large files is a must. But sending large files through email slows productivity and makes the collaboration that much more difficult. Here are some alternative methods to send large files that makes it easy to manage:

1. https://www.wetransfer.com/

I use this website a lot. You can send up to 2GB of files, which is quite a bit of data. I haven’t done a stress test yet, but I have been able to upload around 15 .WAV files at once without any issues. Yes, depending on your internet bandwidth and how well your computer runs, it may take some time, which is expected. However, it beats having to zip multiple files and send them through 2 or 3 emails.

DropBox is great! Just like WeTransfer, you get 2GB of free space. This platform allows you to upload and download files instantly. By sharing folders, you can quickly send albums size files without hassles. I have housed many album projects in .WAV and .MP3 formats and still managed to have plenty of space left over. This means DropBox can also be used for file back up. Good data management practice is having 3 copies available. This entails 2 local (hard-drive or CD) and 1 in the cloud. DropBox can not only send large files through to collaborators, but it also serves as good file back up management.

3. https://app.gobbler.com/i/AuqyaXX

Gobbler is a newer platform. It is similar to DropBox in that you can also send large files and use as data management. However, Gobbler is tailored toward music projects. Gobbler can scan your computer and backup files for you. Whether you use ProTools, Logic Pro, or Sonar, you can auto-backup session files, organize your projects, and collaborate with other artists. When you sign up, you get 5GB of fee space.

These are all great websites that make making music easy that I’ve used. I recommend trying these different sites and see which works best for you projects. And you if have other suggestions, your input is greatly appreciated!

What’s up underground hip hop heads! My name is Alex, as an audio engineer I go by Agruv. UnderGroundHipHopBlog (UGHHB) has given me the opportunity to contribute weekly tips about the music industry. Although my background is in audio engineering, I did start out as a musician in high school and attended Musicians Institute (MI) in Hollywood. During my year at MI, I studied music business, which allowed me to see first hand how the industry works.

My weekly topics will mainly cover audio engineering, which will include recording, mixing, and mastering. I may occasionally cover topics such as networking, marketing, collaboration, and some philosophical ramblings from time to time.

Again, I’d like to thank UGHHB for this great opportunity. I hope I get to work with you guys on any recording, mixing, and mastering projects. But more importantly, I hope you gain some knowledge and understanding about the industry, make some dope music and take your career to the next level.
