90′s Rap Grinch – Q&A Interview

90′s Rap Grinch

Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

However..the Grinch doesn’t reveal where he resides or where he’s from. All I can say is.. I’m in a basement in America. I was born somewhere in the wilderness and adopted by Hip Hop culture as an adolescent. This took place sometime long long ago way back in the 90’s era. It was a time before youtube and twitter, when cell phones were carved out of solid granite and stone. It was there, that I would study under the tutelage of some of the greatest DJ’s Producers and MC’s in the realm. You can think of me as like one of the Last Samurai or somethin.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

What influences me?.. no matter what aspect of Hip Hop we talkin about…it’s just to not be wack. Period. That’s the Golden Rule of Hip Hop and most people don’t follow it. U know me..the Grinch personally I’ve made all types of wack joints…but they don’t ever come out..cause I throw them shits in the Fires of Morador where only Hobbits and Elves can get to that shit. Ya’ll new MC’s should do the same. But aside from not bein wack…the inspiration is either to do something that nobody’s done or do it in a way that it hasn’t been done before.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other DJs?

Now.. what separates me from the pack as a DJ..is that I’ve got producer and MC ears. I hear that shit from the ground up how everything is supposed to go. So even though I don’t really rhyme like that..don’t think I’m not battle tested. I’m from the 90’s dude. We would  punch your MOMS in the face if she spit wack bars. Which actually did happen and I’d like to apologize to Grimy Pete and his moms for that. I know it wasn’t right.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

Grinch doesn’t discuss his collaborations. Next question.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Hip Hop IS the Underground. The only reason we use the term Underground Hip Hop..is because Hip Hop went mainstream. Hip Hop is rebel music, its street culture, its intellectual culture. It’s the voice of the unheard. We just call it Underground Hip Hop to distinguish it from the mainstream hip hop… aka Emoticon Raps.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?

And who would you like to work with?Man, production wise…everyone on the Grinchtape is a god to me. You check out the tape you checkin the best producers to ever do it. Once again..the Grinch doesn’t talk about who he’s workin with.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Right now its all about the Grinchtape: Vol 1 All Vinyl Remix Edition. Grinchtape: Vol 1 All Vinyl Remix Edition. Grinchtape: Vol 1 All Vinyl Remix Edition.

More tapes to come.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of The Grinchtape Volume 1 ALL VINYL REMIX EDITION? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.

The creative process of the tape was the most fun I’ve had in a while. I just heard old heads sayin how they missed the 90’s and I knew young heads that was studyin the 90s tryin to MC. I had all this vinyl layin around in my cave like hoarded dragon treasure, so I was like yo.. ima compose my own musical Hip Hop chronicle of the 90’s. I tried to encompass everything from the crack epidemic to the explosion of consciousness that came out of that. So this is just the story of our culture you know.  It’s somethin for the older gods to reminisce over and somethin for the younger gods to study. On another level I wanted to present our story to an international audience whether its Europe, South America, Japan or wherever.

The cover concept…it took me over 3 fortnights and deep fasting before the inspiration hit me..and finally  I thought..hey I’m the 90’s Rap Grinch..wouldn’t it be a good idea to put ME on the cover?.. Yup it was.

Where can we find your music and info?

You can find me exclusively on Soundcloud and Twitter. I might say cool things on twitter but probably just more angry rants about Hip Hop.. so you should just download this and retweet it really.
