Alex Burnett – Q&A Interview

Alex Burnett - Q&A Interview

Where are you from?  How did you come up with your stage name?

I’m originally from Maryland. But I moved to Tampa at a young age. Thats actually where I made the name change. I wanted people to recognize me and remember me in a genuine way. What better way to do that than to use my actual name?

Who are you influences in the Hip Hop game? Also/ What motivated you in becoming a Hip Hop artist.

What has always motivated me is simply the love of Hip-Hop in general and the influence it has on the world. I always loved expressing myself with words so when rap came along it was a perfect fit. Lyricism in Hip-Hop is so important, and I express that importance in my craft. Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, Outkast, J. Cole, Kendrick lamar, Biggie, Tupac. All of these guys did the same thing in their art and to hear them do their thing is always helpful to me.

Congrats on success of your latest project, “Interpratate” (Album) .  Feel free to breakdown the creative process of the project. (features, production, etc).  Where can people find the project?

Thank you. I appreciate that.
Interpratate was a project that I put a lot of myself into and I did that in hopes to connect with my audience. I wanted the title to embody that attempt. The root of the title is “interprate” and that really what I wanted people to take away from that. It’s a chance for people to see me for who I am through their own eyes. Thats why there are minimal features on it. I wanted to speak on certain things and I got to do that.

It can be found on my website – burnettalex.wix.com/alex2xela

Will you be launching any new Music Videos in 2016?  And If so off of what project(s).

I am currently working on my next project but as far as visuals go im focusing on making something for interpratate first. I want to give that to the people since its already out and they’re listening to it. Doing that will add to the project as a whole.

What advice would you give a 12 yr old kid who wants to be a quality musician like yourself?

The advice that I’d give is to develop passion for the craft. It’s really easy to get caught up in trying to make music for the wrong reasons like for the sake of making money. But you wont last very long that way. The music always comes first. Always.

How does social media playing a role in promoting your music?  How are fans / supporters helping the movement?

Social media is a crucial role in my efforts. It makes it so much easier to reach my audience and reach potential listeners. Not to mention the sharing capability from the current supporters. Finding something you like is just a click away and sharing it is as easy and simple as posting it.

Our most important question: what’s your definition of “underground hip hop”?

I think that the definition of underground Hip-Hop has changed. It used to be the music that wasnt played on the radio was considered “undergound” but going back to what I said about social media, that formula has changed. If the music reaches the same amount of people through an online platform as it would on the radio, is it still considered “underground”? So to answer the question, I think underground Hip-Hop is defined more by how many people you reach as opposed to how you reach them.

Where can people find you online?  Any links?

Most definitely.
