Antone Mecca – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
My name is Antone Mecca I’m originally from Medellin, Colombia, raised in Sweden and currently living in Barcelona, Spain. I’ve been making hiphop since 2004, 10 years!
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
I’ve collaborated with cats from all over the world like The Hitfarmers (Germany), Webbafied, Zeps and Hash Mills (Brooklyn/Brownsville, US), Yoshi di original (Paris), Allyawan and the Muddy Fatique (sweden), and I would love to get in the studio and work with artists like Sean Price, Action Bronson or Guilty Simpson, that would be ill!!
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Underground hiphop for me is hiphop that isn’t trying to adapt to what is played on the radio or tv stations, rap music that is made independently and made for the love of rap as an artform rather then for the lust of fame or success. I will always keep on creating music mainly for me, and if I can gain a crowd because I choose to do what I feel is right and what I think sounds good in my ears then my followers become the icing on the cake. Don’t get me wrong, I love all my followers I’m just saying that I’m not in it because of them, I’m in it because I love the music and the culture that surrounds it.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with.
Production wise I get influenced by a lot of swedish cats, Sweden has MAD beatmakers like Blezz, Tape-Roc, Beatslingers, Academics, Alterfix and Ruz. The guys you see producing my shit are mainly Tape Roc and Blezz, also Sonny Frito, we tend to keep most of the Rusty Label productions in-house. Altho I would love to work with Academics and Beatslingers, there sound is sick!
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
Right now I’m about to release my third solo project “Natural Selection” thru Rusty Label, it’s due for release on the 25th this month and features productions from Blezz, Tape Roc, Sonny Frito and GDS (RustyLabel) and guest verses from artists like Palestine aka Ledr P, Hash Mills and Joey Sixx. It will be available on Itunes, Spotify, Amazon and also in physical format for all the real heads out there! Follow us on Facebook to get details on that.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Natural Selection? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your EP’s Art Cover.
I’m one of those rappers that like to start and finish a whole song in the studio, forge while the iron is hot so to speak. So while recording Natural Selection, I flew to Sweden, got in the studio with Blezz and the guys and started writing, I had some lyrics prepared since before but mostly I wrote the whole thing in the studio, and we finished it within a few weeks. All day all night type of shit! The whole concept behind the EP is that its a very natural blend of talent on it, like i said earlier around here there´s only a handfull of mc´s doing what we do but still, “it’s like a jungle sometimes”, survival of the fittest on some Darwin shit, hence the cover.
Where can we find your music and info?
You can find my releases and more music at www.rustylabel.se and at Rusty Label @ Facebook also I’m a real instagram junkie so follow me @ameccaa on Instagram!
