Antz – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
I go by Antz and I’m from a city called Santa Maria on the beautiful Central Coast of California. I been making Hip Hop officially and consistently since 2010.
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
There are a few things that influences me to make Hip Hop. First is the love of the culture; how it has been helping to keep people off the streets. Now a days people are doing shows and making things happen in a studio exchanging for falling in the footsteps of gang members or people of that nature. Instead of being out there killing or hurt each other they are handling beef in different ways like Battle Raps or creatively replacing it with home-made music. Second; I do it because of the mainstream corporate type of music that you hear on the radio. They motivate me to be different from what their music is telling the masses to do which is basically partying, clubbing, money this bitches that and it goes into how they want you to be.
Third; I do it for the love of music and poetry and if I can influence one person in a positive way with my music and life experiences then I have accomplished a big part of what I love doing.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
My music is straight forward containing real life and raw lyrics in the form of HipHop. What separates me from other MCs is I’m real humble and not cocky. I’m not trying to be better than anyone else I just want to inspire people and maybe change life’s in a positive way.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
To be honest I haven’t collaborated with any big or well know names. As of right now it doesn’t matter who I collaborate with but I’m always down as long as we feeling each other’s style and reason of being. I’m still fresh in the game so when the time is right it will come.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Underground HipHop is music that comes from the heart, is honestly correct and doesn’t follow in the footsteps that the “higher end” governments want it to. They already control enough but hip hop one group that will hold it’s grounds.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
Production wise I would have to say DJ Quick, Battle Cat, and 50cent. I have only worked with a few legit producers, ones that been doing it for over a decade, Mike Storm, Cocell Productions, Wackoproductions & Lil Bones, and Cynical at The Dope Spot Productions.
Sometime in the future I wouldn’t mind working with Rhyme Addicts, Pepe Locs, Ras Kass, MF Beats, Pawz One, Kurupt, and Snoop. The list can go on.
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
I got a project I been collecting songs towards which will be a collaboration with a bunch of independent producer’s beats and production who have made a name for them selfs over the passed decade. This will get me in their studio and just lets me feel everyone out as well as them getting to know me and see if we can go about working on projects for the future.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of What It’s Worth? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.
My creative process for What It’s Worth was my life experiences, my family, and negative people. What I did with this album was I wrote all the content out before I recorded any of the songs sort of like a book. I got the topic, plotted the image, and went to work writing early mornings, late nights, and during my breaks at work.
The album cover has no special meaning behind it. All I wanted to do was identify all talent put into the whole thing.
