Black X – Q&A Interview

EGO

Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

Im from the DMV & I’ve been making music seriously for the past 3 years.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

History makers. Malcolm X, Huey Newton, MLK, also the great rappers of the Old School. Tupac, NWA, Public Enemy all the artist who actually had something real and meaningful in their content.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

My music is just me emptying my everyday emotions of life. If your going threw anything, just trying to get by, fed up with the natural stress of everyday life, or just want to relax you can listen to my music and relate. What makes me difference is my whole style. With a mixture of influence and not many Artist coming out of my area I have no choice but to create my own style.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

Lately I haven’t had many collabs. I feel as though when making my body of art I aim to let people hear me and what I am about not just a bunch of big artist taking over my tape. Hopefully by next year you can hear me do some collabs with, Dreamville, Pro Era, or any Up & Coming Freshmen on the rise. Also maybe some Artist Buzzing in my area.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

The Underground Hip Hop Fans aren’t the normal fans. These are the people who have a passion for music, the ones who care more about the art and sound than a paycheck.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?

My production comes from all over. I definitely admire the works of No ID, Dre, Statik Seletikah, J Cole, hopefully I can work with them pretty soon.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

“EGO?” Available now on Spinrilla, A tape for Everyone and Everybody

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of EGO? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.

Well my first mixtape didn’t sit well with me, there was a lack of confidence in my tone and I came a little too peaceful with MLK on my cover he was my influence. So with EGO I switched up from MLK to Huey P. With more Confidence ready to make a killing. Just to let the game know that I’m here and I will not be denied by anyone.
