Bondi Hipsters – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourselves. Where is the group from? And/ What made you guys decide to push Hip Hop?
We are a pair of MC’s from Bondi Beach Australia. We also work locally as DJ’s – we are known here in Australia as DJ Enzyme (breaking shit down) and DJ Oedipus (the original mother fucker). With our own stuff, we like to dabble in a range of different electronic music types, but hip hop was the most suitable musical stratosphere for this particular track – given the content.
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
Just having something real to say. In this case, we set out to drop a massive truthbomb on the financial sector.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
I would say that we are probably more raw, real and honest than any other hips hop artists that we’ve come across. Most people are immediately stunted by the fact that they are in the pursuit of financial success, or fame. We don’t want either of these things. All we want is an invitation to join the illuminati. When global warming has kicked in, the polar ice caps are going to melt, water is going to cover the earth, and the Illuminati are going to fill a space ship full of their members and fly away to a new planet to resettle the human race. We just want to be there.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
It’s been all us so far.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Hip Hop beats with deeper bass than the technodrome.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
We have a range of influences. Human beings, traffic sounds, street noise, life in general. Our biggest influence is probably the big bang – I mean everything came from that. Without the big bang, we wouldn’t have human beings, traffic sounds, street noise or life at all. Our production is done by Lance Gurisik – out of Sydney. Would love to work with Flume, Skrillex or Diplo.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of “Fuhck the Bahnks” Video? How was the Music Video production shoot experience, from what we know you guys are film makers right?
We shot the video at a range of locations in and around Sydney. One of which was Adrian’s Dad’s office. He works for a bank. In fact the idea for the song first came about when we went to apply for a loan – we were hoping that Adrian’s Dad would give us some money to help fund our fashion label, but he said no, so we went away and wrote this song. It was actually good timing. We bought a case of beer, a bowl of weed, and watched so much stuff online that we became suddenly “awakened” and we knew that what we had to do was to say fuck you to the whole financial system. .
