C-Kan – Q&A Interview
Please describe your stage name?
The “C” is the Insignia of my hood “La Cancha”. The “Kan” is due to my passion for dogs, an abbreviated of my other A.K.A “El Perro De La C”.
Who are you music influences and how do they have an effect with your music today?
Latin music is general. In my country Regional Mexican is the most traditional. Rap appeared in my life at about 15-16 years of age by rap artists from the U.S. It was a few years after I heard rap in spanish when I decided that was what I wanted to do. You can tell that latin music in general is of influence on my lyrics and rhythms.
In the near future which artist(s) would you like to collab with?
Damian Marley, Cypress Hill, Nach or Rene of Calle 13 are artists whose work I admire and whom by consequence I would like to work a project with.
What separates you from other MCs?
I think my way of doing music without being scared to do something different. In Mexico there are rappers that believe that mixing rap with other types of rhythms or artists that aren’t “rap” is a bad thing! I do music because I like it and because it sounds good without me losing my essence.
How does it feel getting so much attention from Fans all over Southern America.
This is something that has been growing for some years now, although I believe it’s currently at its best with more shows, more rappers, more venues and more followers. This means more work for all involved.
Your definition of “No Todo Lo Que Brilla Es Oro”?
I try to help people understand that sometimes material things are not everything when it comes to being happy. I lived a childhood where maybe I didn’t have everything I wanted but I had friends, family and health which continue being here and at the end of the day are the things that matter most.
Please describe “Por El Mexicano”?
On this record we tried to manifest in rap a message that the people of Mexico repeat constantly but in almost all occasions is reprimanded. Through my music I try to deliver realistic situations that take place in this country and that maybe most are unaware of it don’t want to accept.
Any advise for the younger generation of MC’s that are tying to make it in this Hip Hop business?
That it is a matter of work, effort and discipline. There are those who see the poster for the show, the performance stages and the videos and they believe that an artist’ homework is easy. They don’t really all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Clasificación C, Vol. 2?
Being able to bring together all of these collaborations on one CD with the right sound. Due to the distance at times it is difficult to reach an end result where all are satisfied. I feel that with this CD we were able to achieve favorable results for all that participated.
Any collabs on your latest project, if so which is you most memorable and why?
El Llanto Del Inmigrante” I have been a fan of Mr Shadow’s since I started to make music. For some time we had been trying to find the way to do some thing. The opportunity came to record a song with a good message, with T Lopez participating on the chorus. This is of my favorite records.
Any shout outs?
Thanks for the space and the spreading of rap made in Mexico. This is whats needed in order for the work that we do around here to be known.
