Chartt -Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
Awesome, I’m CHARTT if you don’t know me or Chris if you do know me. I don’t really care. I live in Orlando now but grew up everywhere. Until 14 I lived in Stuart, FL. I kept getting in trouble and moving in high school, so I lived in Charlotte, South Carolina , New Mexico and back home every now and again.
When I moved to South Carolina in 2004, I started rapping. I didn’t get serious with it until 2010. So about 9 years, 4 serious. I’d say this is the 1st attempt to build a real fan base though.
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
Honestly, Life. I write how I feel into my music and try to capture the emotions.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
It’s emotional man. It’s suppose to make you feel however I felt when I was inspired to write the song. Every artist is different & music is so cultured with different styles, so when it comes to separating yourself, you just have to know who you are and do it 1000%.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
Just the people I go through stuff with. I only like to get people on records that I think they can bring a view that would compliment mine.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Artists that have a vision. The minority of the music world. It’s the 1st stop on the way to any other stage of your career. Whether it translates to success and popularity with your music, I think depends on other things though.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
I do most of my own production. I taught myself how to play the piano in 2009 and just evolved from there. I think it’s important because it crafts YOUR SOUND. I wanted diversity on the CD though so I worked with Drum Majors ATL (@DrumMajorsATL) , Tha 3rd and Exile.
I like playing chords and I like making big sounds. I would have to say DJ Dahi is tight, 40 is obviously the man & Kayne beats go hard.
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
I have a 19 track free debut CD available. I self titled it as “CHARTT”. I also have a cypher I’m putting together with artists from martin county where I spent most of my life. We recorded it at Plush in Orlando and already filmed the video on the 10th of May. The energy was great and everyone ripped it. I was disappointed so many people didn’t write me back on it though, but glad we got the group of artists we did.
J Buzzi , Toro , Mr.185 , KT , Timmy G & Myself
Other than that, I already started gathering beats and ideas for my next project. I’m going to drop bars the 2nd CD. about 8-12 tracks with a heavy hip hop sound. I got some beats made for it, so does Andre On Beat (@AndreONbeat) and Logic’s producer C-Sick.
