D. Green – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
My name is D. Green, I am a hip hop recording artist and songwriter. I have been writing songs since I was about 11, I started taking it serious at the age of 21 though. My overall goal is to become a household name in this business and in my own way, do some great things through the music I create.
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
My life honestly. How I grew up and what I had to overcome to get to where I am today. I’m influenced by the idea of make something out of nothing. Others have done it and that lets me know it’s possible. I think we all have something to offer, something that can help make a difference for ourselves and others. For me its music and I want to inspire and influence others through it.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
I look at my music as a bunch of mini conversational pieces. It’s a one-on-one conversation between me and the listener. A lot of the times I am just talking and trying to get my story out there, painting pictures for people as the song progress. Music has really been one of the only ways to get my thoughts out clearly and I take advantage of that. What separates me from other artist is my story. No one can tell you my story or tell my story the way I tell it.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
I have worked with DJ Green Lantern, Skyzoo and Emilio Rojas on my last mixtape “Top Floor Mind State/Ground Floor Humility” and the homie DJ Zeke on my “Gone Green” mixtape. If I can make it happen, I would like to get DJ Drama on board for a “Gangsta Grills.” But artist wise, on the rap side of things, Jadakiss, J. Cole, and T.I for sure. One the Soul and R&B side of things, Anthony Hamilton, KEM, ZZ Ward and Trey Songz.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
I think underground hip hop is the music that have yet to break the mainstream walls down. Not to say that it needs to in order to thrive in music anymore. There is a lot of great underground hip hop that is doing really well without the mainstream’s help, which is great.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
For me, there really isn’t one producer that I am influenced by. I appreciate what producers have done for the game and there are a few that have changed the sound of hip hop over the years. But I’m more influenced by how dope artists complement dope production. I get my production from all over. Since I don’t have an in-house producer yet, I spend hours on SoundClick looking for the right records to work on. There are some really talented producers on there that I would like to sit in the studio with and work on stuff from scratch.
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
Right now I am working on getting my new EP “For The F.E.W.” to as many people as possible. I want people to hear it and talk about it in which ever way they see fit. All and all I think it’s a solid 6 track project that people can enjoy. For all of those that haven’t heard the EP, check it out.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of For The F.E.W.? Also tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album Cover Art.
For this EP, I wanted to keep it very down to earth, very close to home and just give listeners me and my truths. The few people who have been fans of my music since the beginning have always appreciated that about me and I appreciate the fact that they rock with me for just being who I am. So I wanted to keep the music honest and genuine. For the cover art, I wanted to show a connection between an artist and his fans, which led me to picking the imagine I picked. The cover art shows an artist performing for the crowd, but also the crowd performing for the artist. I think that’s the way it should be when you’re up on that stage.
