Demon – Q&A Interview

Demon - Q&A Interview

Congratulations on your latest Album release “Hell Is Alive And Waiting” (Nightmare Poetry Book II) . We checked it out and we really enjoyed the fresh new sound & perspective on dark and death rap. What motivated you to create this style of music.

Well, from my perspective it is very reminisce of the attitude or vibe of some of my favorite classic/unkown underground hip hop albums from Houston and LA. The strange thing about those records are the fact that they are not considered part of a Dark scene. They jus contain lyrics and a general feel of where the mind travels to from one’s surroundings. And mostly, that’s what im trying to accomplish with my music as well.

Is this the first dark death rap albums you have? Is so, how do you feel about it!

Truthfully, my next project coming soon will be darker. This album in particular wasnt extremely going in that direction cuz generally that is not my style. My previous works and even this one have more of a personal introspective approach with a dark feel ala Three Six Mafia’s early work mixed with joe budden. The next one would be my first project that is strictly murderous.

Who are your musical influences in Hip Hop?

Strap in, its gonna be a diverse list. I would say first and foremost Street Military, 2pac, Onyx, Kool Keith, Triple Six Mafia and their early affiliates, Brotha Lynch, Sicx, X-raided, Spice 1, Fakkulty, Z-ro, Ganksta Nip, MF Doom, and Klondike Kat.

Give us a little background on why you chose the artwork for the album cover!

To be honest, the first reson that comes to mind is that its public domain. Jk. As well as that, I am not the biggest fan of my shitty appearance. Also people’s perception of my music is horrific like this picture and all of my covers really. But, it’s a subjective thing. The scream is very abstract and everyone can look at it and see something completely different, depending on the person. Ya know just like my shit.

How does social media play a role on pushing Demon music.

Until recently, it didn’t factor in. Now I am trying to get my name out there cuz I feel my music is finally up to par with how I envisioned it to be. Look for me on twitter, at http://www.twitter.com/Dxmxnx666 where I get my Kanye style rant on. LOL. Naw, I just keep it 1 thousand.

How do you feel about the current state of Dark/Death Rap Hip Hop. Is it growing or diminishing?

To be complety fuckin honest I don’t and would never like to be considered part of that scene, cuz thats not really part of what i want to accomplish in music. No offense of course, their alot of talented artists that run in that lane, but the problem is they get severely pigeon holed into delivering that style of music and i am trying to be very diverse. And as well, quite a few of the artists become rather corny, and I wish to be taken VERY seriously like my personal heroes in music, listed above.

Our most popular question….What is your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”

Hmmm… Thats a very interesting question. I feel that underground hip hop is music that is vastly unappreciated and unknown to the general public, ie. casual fans. Especially in hip hop where the vast majority of listeners only check for mainstream or major label artists and don’t really want to take the time and energy to research/discover new artists or classic forgotten albums. For instance, they will really fuck with a mainstream artists album and dig the sound, but will not want to expand their taste and check out who inspired that said sound or artist. Furthermore, a popular hip hop artist will create an alternative hip hop album, but it wont inspire fans to find other artists doing that sound.

Where do you see yourselves in 5 years in the Hip Hop game?

Hopefully, fingers crossed, in five years, I could have a small devoted fan base who really fuck with my shit and dig what I do in a major way. I am not after fame and money. I am an artist at heart and want to express myself in a fashion that others will be able to really feel and appreciate even after I’m DEAD cuz real music lasts forever.

Any Shout Outs?

I would mostly like to shoutout my partner in crime and producer DJ Aiqi, all of my fav rappers listed above, my best friend, my down ass nigga, my mom and my mammy. As well I would like to send a major FUCK U to my piece of shit scumbag father who never believed in my ass. Well, how bout now bitch! And to any fans out there, mad love. Peace!
