DJ Pressure – Q&A Interview
For those who don’t know you, feel free to tell the readers where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop
I am the Scratch Master Dj Pressure from Salford, Greater Manchester England, I have been a scratch dj since the late 80s and i have collabed with many crews before i started the Old Boys Club
How is the UK Hip Hop scene in your opinion? How are you trying to make an impact on it?
Uk Hip Hop has many dope djs, mcs & producers going back to the start of the scene in UK, but we seem to be over shadowed by the Grime scene, Revival of the Real aims to go beyond just a UK Hip Hop album, thats why i got Chuck D to introduce the album on the intro an Dj JSOne to over look everything, its the seal of approvement the albums certified DOPE, my aim was give the old skool guys something they can really feel an bug out too, and to show the new skool generation that us old dogs still got what it takes, an were more important now than ever. I made the album around the turntables because the DJ seems to in decline so i tried to scratch as much as possible, a show of defiance.
Congrats on the release of your new record ” Old Boys Club “Revival Of The Real”. Talk about the concept of the album?
The concept for the album is in its title, its time for a Revival of the real Hip Hop, OBC team all feel like Hip Hop has been taken over by the industry and turned into something its not, there not in touch with streets or understand the music they have robbed and raped our culture and only promote the fake or wac, how can the justify whats bein released an put in our genre an classed as Hip Hop…they cant coz its not Hip Hop its something else, I want the Old Boys Club to stand tall in the underground and mainstream, so i we went out of my way to create a song that is mainstream but remains real and is still dope.
With the many greats collaborations you have on the album, which songs do you have great pride in?
I have pride in em all, every song is a classic an straight up dope, my personal favorites are…. the intro because we got the legend Chuck D introducing the album, also the outro, i fell in love with the beat the break is ridiculous it was produced by Elements Raw from Wales (UK), it was a huge effort made by me & D-Monarch to go through hours of music searchin for the right words to scratch it was the toughest track to complete on the album but well worth the time put in, The Medicine i did with Darian The Great, Stu Hagon and D-Monarch. Come Correct with Noz, 4 Elements with Slap up Mill, Custom Made Credentials with Clever One and Kid Tsunami, Getting Ruste Juxx and DJ JSOne on The Cypher, DJ JSOne on Street Poetry i got to beat box for him on his 1st vocal recording so i was honoured to be able to do that for him, dam theres so many great records on album, everybody featured smashed it.
Any collabs you’ve been wanting to do and made happen?
Yes. Chuck D, DJ JSOne, Ruste Juxx, Darian The Great, Clever One, PawzOne i wanted all the heads on the album i chose all the artists an the records there on
How is the promotion and feedback doing with the record, any media mentions about the album? How are your fans responding to it?
We have had really really good feedback but we need to push it harder to let the true heads know that were out here holdin down the music we need more people behind us so we can make the follow up album with more world renound artists, aswell as the unheard underground heads. Chuck D & Terminator x played tracks on there radio shows on Rapstation, Joint One in Japan, Original Boombap show in France, Maximum Fm Canada, We got support from bloggers Ryan Proctor, Scratchdablock, Grownuprap, The Manchester Evening News gave us a big article in print & online. We had huge response from peeps on Facebook,Twitter,Youtube & Soundcloud. Thank you to every one that copped the album an there great responses
Production wise, if you don’t mind us asking, what do you use to make your beats? Many of those beats on the album were bangers!
Our producers use hardware/software – mpc, roland mv and pro tools, reason and cubase
What makes a good sample to make a beat off of, or to add to a beat?
everybody has there own views on what makes a good sample im not a producer but i heard lootpacks answers record an that is a dope sample and the intro on my album is a dope sample an the D-Monarch remix was another dope sample, shits just gotta be bangin when the producers finished tweakin pitchin an choppin it up.
Underground Hip Hop, what’s your definition of it?
Underground Hip Hop to me is uncensored lyrical content, rappers/mcees say what they wanna say without being told to change this line or that line, its also music that doesn’t conform to popular commercial demands of the main stream media, Its where the real hip hop resides.
Feel free to drop some links were fans can follow you and grab more of your music?
