-Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

  • My name is Junior Obour aka juneyouare. I’m a 19 year-old college student. I’m currently a bio major at The College of New Jersey. Area wise I’m from the suburbs of Hillsborough, New Jersey. Hip Hop has always been part of my life. I’ve always been making rhymes here and there growing up, and started taking it seriously toward the end of High School. During my first year of college I made enough money to build myself a nice little studio setup in my dorm and that’s where it all started. I locked myself in the room and taught myself how to mix, edit, and record songs. I learned from watching YouTube videos and stuff like that.

-What influences you in making Hip Hop?

  • Experiences. I’d like to say I put my life into the music. I like to use real world examples and talk about what I’m actually going through. I like putting together different flows and trying new ways of writing songs. I grew up listening to talented artists like Eminem, 50 Cent, and Kanye West for example. They’re all different artists, but each have a certain quality that separates their music. I love making songs that make you have an opinion: Either you hate it or love it. I feel the worst thing you could possibly do is put out music that generates no reaction. Even if the music sets a negative tone, you’re making people feel a certain way. Music should influence emotion.

-Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

  • My music is just an extension of the shit I’m actually going through. I just love sharing stories in unique ways that get you to engage with the music. I’m nowhere near satisfied with my ability yet and I’m already enjoying seeing myself improve. It’s hard being in college balancing being a pre-med student and wanting to follow a passion. It gets really frustrating at times, putting in the work and not seeing the response you want from people. It keeps me going though. There aren’t too many MC’s pursing a degree as well as trying to promote themselves within the music scene. The music aspect just comes so easily that I can put all of my focus into the school spend any free time I get laying down tracks.

-Who have you collaborated with? Who would like to collab with in the
near future?

  • I haven’t collaborated with any known artists to this point. I would love to one-day work with either Kendrick Lamar or Andree 3k.

-Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

  • To me, underground hip-hop is anything that brings a new flavor to the art form. It can be any type of music that isn’t widely known yet, giving it a raw new energy that attracts listeners.

-Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production,
and who would you like to work with?

  • I love the production of greats such as Timberland, Pharell, Dr. Dre, and even Kayne West. At this point I have a few producers who are talented friends of mine and that I hope to grow with. I also enjoy using instrumentals from producers that I come across on the internet such as the Solection crew on soundcloud/

-Any current or future projects you are promoting?

  • I have my debut mixtape in the works, in addition to my first EP. I’ll be putting out a single soon, as well as videos promoting both projects on my new YouTube page.

-Where can we find your music and info?

-Any shout outs?

  • Shout out to any students out there working to make their parents proud. 90s Clique is the team I represent, and it includes a generation of young people that work hard at anything they do.
