Lex – Q&A Interview

lex

Your Music has been getting great feedback on our website! For those who don’t know who you are, let the public know!

What’s good people, my stage name is Lex, government name is Antoine Alexander. I was born in Long Beach, California but I was raised in Bloomfield Connecticut. I’ve been making music independently for 15 years. I was brought up in the “Boom Bap” generation where lyrics & skill had to be the strong points of an artist. I take that into serious consideration every time I write a record. I can’t say that my style is “Old School” but my appreciation for the ones that did this before me can be heard in my music. I love to experiment with music too. I never have a set goal in a sound before it’s done, I sort of build as I go. I let my creativity flow openly while I create, my records always come out better that way.

Attic Records is the label reppin your music, how did that relationship go about?

I actually own Attic Records. It was established in 2003 and LLC’d in 2010. When I really started getting serious about this rap shit I was working with some friends of mine up in their grandmothers attic from sun up to sun down. That’s how Attic Records was formed. It’s just that simple.

Congrats on the the new album “Walk With Me” The EP we a few days ago. Looks like the feedback has been awesome, and the EP has pretty much gone viral. On your end, how are the fans taking in the track?

The feedback has been great, I can’t complain. I’ve got nothing but praise off of this project. Everyone that hears it says its what’s needed in Hip Hop right now. I just try to make honest music that everyone can relate to in some way or another.

How did the new EP come about? Who did the production? Who did the artwork?

Walk With Me took me about 2 years to write. In 2013 I quit my job to pursue music full time and took a trip south to work with some business connects. Thats when I started putting together all the lyrics for it. I had most of the production already so it was just the process of building the records one by one. I had about 20 records done but trimmed it down to 7.
Production for the EP comes from “The DopeBoyz” out of Germany (Caught up, Rap Game aint a Playground), Strong Symphony out of Japan (So Loud, Walk with Me), Jimmy Dukes (Lifetimes of the Middle Class, That’s Life (Carry On)), and Stockton Productions (3rd Degree).

Photos for the artwork were taken by my homie @SpaceShipPhotos from Connecticut and the artwork was done by my other homie Nicholas Filatov out of Nevada.

Who are your Musical Influences?

Biggest influences today are Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Tech N9ne, Wu Tang, and A Tribe Called Quest.

You clearly have a bright future in this Hip Hop shit! What project do you have coming next?

The project i’m working on currently is titled “Dark Days, Bright Nights.” it’s dropping sometime in 2016.

We respect your solo grind, but who would you like to work with if you has the chance?

I would be honored to work with Dr. Dre, Kendrick, Cole, Jay-Z, Wu Tang. I Mean I could go on forever you feel me.

Future shows, tours, etc?

The team is at work with pushing the press kit out to venues, just waiting to hear back. All show info will be updated on atticrecordsct.com.
