Maas – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? And how did you come up on your MC name?
My name is Thomas I am 19 years old, i am a hip-hop artist from Memphis,Tn and my stage name is a play on my real name Tho(Maas) with an extra a. I have been messing around with music for about 6 years and i continue to grow in it.
What influences you in making Hip Hop music?
Every day life influences me the most because i see how rappers on the radio now influence youth to indulge in violence, drugs, sex, and that having money is the only thing that matters. I want to bring back that old school hip-hop, the kind that was about something and had meaning behind it.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
My sound is authentic i don’t rap about money and nice cars because i don’t have either. Also i think my music is pretty old school , i love old school music. i make music to help people get through life who feel lost. I make music for the underdogs, the people who no suspects will do great things. The thing that separates me from other MC’s is that i actually study hip-hop. I study different rhyme scheme’s , Multi’s, Double Entendre’s, Poems, and just reading things on the internet. I Also like to study different artist because everybody’s story is different , i try to learn what they do and do it better so i can be the best. I have been rapping for less than a year so i have a lot to learn.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
No one as of right now , to be honest I need to work on my self first because I think i’m an okay rapper and okay never made it any where. I would love to do a song with Logic, because he has to be one of the best rappers out now. He really inspires me to do my best because of everything he went through before he got famous. Memphis native Jon waltz also because that kid has crazy skills and i keep pushing to do better than him.
What is your true definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
The true definition of Underground Hip-Hop is just telling your story. Tell the honest truth in every verse, because Hip-Hop should be real and if you rapping about things that you aren’t about then no one will ever take you seriously.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
Nas and the team that created illmatic. Nas made the best album in history and there wasn’t one bad song on the entire album. i definitely would love to work with Nas because i know for a fact he won’t let me release anything that’s garbage. I handle my own production i have been producing for about 6 years, i’m not great at it put i think i do a good job for a guy in a small bedroom.
-Any current or future projects you are promoting?
Yes, actually my new E.P. will be coming out later in the year it’s called F.M.L ( F*ck my life). I will tell my whole story from school problems, Family problems, Being broke, getting reject by girls, just the works . Anything you want to know about me and my struggle with music definitely be on the look out for that E.P.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of ABSTRACT? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.
Abstract has always been in my head, i just had to find the perfect words to put to it. I just took everything that makes me feel bad about my self and tried to incorporate that in that track. It’s to anyone that ever had someone say “You will never be shit” or ” Your dreams are worthless”. The cover art is space and the limitless possibilities a person can achieve. It shows that the sky is not the limit but you yourself is. Whatever you hold yourself back from keeps you static and puts limitations on your art..
