Marv Ellis – Q&A Interview

Marv Ellis

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

I’m a emcee, producer, slash do way too many things to list type of community based musician hailing from Eugene, Or.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

Mostly the craft of writing rhymes and getting the words and melodies out of my head. Making a song that sticks and is classic and doesn’t lean on trends to thrive.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I’m a veteran w loads of experience, a large catalogue of music, fluent in spanish, and unique energy that my band brings out of me. I tend to take hip hop to new realms and cross into other genres that most don’t attempt to. I rap how I talk. I’m not fake

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I have collaborated w Gift of Gab, Scarub, Slim Kid Tre, Lafa Taylor, Metric, Shook Twins, LynX, Russ Liquid, and countless more.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

My definition lies in the pile of albums I have traded for. It’s the voice of the people, not streamlined and usually not perfect.
It’s a place of freedom and developmental concepts.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?  And who would you like to work with?

Dj Premier, The Roots, Atmosphere, Timbaland.
I do most of my production in my room. But with this band we produce together.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Currently I’m focused on the WE TRIBE project. I’ve got about 40 songs for my next album whenever that needs to drop.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Five For One? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album Cover Art.

WE get together and make what ever sounds good go. No looking back. Just make it bang and try to make the song mean something.

As long as it’s fun to play.

WE made the album to represent our sound to its fullest. The way we sound live is what you get on the record. There’s five of us and we live in the 541 area code. Seemed fitting.

Where can we find your music and info?

www.marvellis.com is the best spot as of now. WE are kind of using the base of my career to jump off from.
It’s been a two-year transition to show people how sick the new band is.

Any shout outs?

Everybody I would shout out to wouldn’t care. They just want us to succeed. Thank you for your time with this. Sorry for the lag!
