Mike Lo “Q&A Interview”
–Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
It’s Mike Lo if you didn’t know! haa Naw but I’m Mike Lo aka Mr. FeelGoodMusic young Chi dude reppin from the burbs. I’m originally from Elgin, IL been writing music since I was in the 6th grade but really started pursing it as a career choice after I turned 21 and finished school.
-What influences you in making Hip Hop?
I’d have to say the environment I grew up in had a major influence on my love for Hip Hop. Where I grew up everybody I kicked it with was always bustin out freestyles and makin beats on the lunch tables and what not…So i guess that influenced me to always want to hear the next hot beat or the hottest verses. I was always around it and dudes knew I could rap, once school was out of the picture, I knew I didn’t wanna work no 9 to 5 forever, so it was time to go hard.
-Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
I don’t judge other MC’s or their style. I always tell fans and other artists to do what is true to them. Don’t be out here rapping about something you ain’t really about or have no knowledge of because the best music is when you can touch the listener a certain way. That’s why I rep #FeelGoodMusic all day because it’s true to who I am and what I represent.
-Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
Brick Squad Monopoly’s Bo Deal, Taylor Gang’s Chevy Woods and my dude @IamPries. I’ve also rocked wit a handful of local cats but I just consider them squad. Already got a few things lined up here in the near future but I’m looking to link up with the bro Young Chop for a few projects. I’d like to work wit Ty $ or Chris brown and I want Jermaine Dupri to handle a single.
-Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
To me Underground Hip Hop is just everyone who is out here on they grind, representing the culture. I always thought of it to be anyone who is on the come up.
-Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
I’m a listener. I don’t judge production with politics, if it sounds hot and touches me a certain way, I instantly start writing to it. A lot of my production comes from in and around Chicago. -Any current or future projects you are promoting?
Got a few things lined up with the Ms. Conception video droppin Sept. 19th that will be the first official single to a near future album we’re putting together. Super excited about that!
-Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of your latest music video “Ms. Conception”? Also/ How was the shoot experience, how good did you get along with the director and production team and describe the environment.
My creative process starts with the beat. You know, whether it be aggressive or reflective the beat makes me feel a certain way and the words just come to me. As far as the visual, we wanted something the listeners could easily follow along and relate with. The song tells a story and the visual brings it to life. The shoot experience was very different for me compared to a few of the videos I had done in the past. Had to do some acting, gettin my Will Smith on! HA! The directors made it a comfortable, creative environment which made it easy for me to get into character and stay focused. I’m more of the fun, goofy guy so it was hard for me to be all serious at first.
