Monté Da Vinci – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
I’m from the south side of Chicago and I have only been rapping seriously for about a year but I have been making beats for 4 years. I’m apart of a group called the “Clan”, Which consists of three people; myself, Pharaoh, and Los.
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
My influences in making Hip-Hop would be artists like Kanye West and Drake. I feel like when I listen to their albums they do something for me personally so in a way want to give others that same feeling I felt listening to their music.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
I would describe the Clans music as “Hybrid Drill”, because through every beat and verse you can feel what we’re saying like in a “Drill” song. But hybrid because we talk about similar obstacles but tell it from a different perspective.
Who have you collaborated with?
Who would you like to collab with in the near future? As of right now I have collaborated with other Chicago artists; E-man (@theofficialeman) & EMP Dasme (@HBEMP). In the future I’d like to collaborate with artists Kanye West, Drake, A$AP Rocky, Fabolous, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane, Lil Bibby, and many more.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
I believe the definition means raw and uncut Hip-Hop.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?
And who would you like to work with? Production wise my influences are Kanye West, Zaytoven, Pharrell, Lex Lugar, and Young Chop. I make my own beats along with my clan member Los. In the future I would definitely want to work with all my influences and others like Mike Will, Drummer Boy, Mike-Will-Made-It, and many others.
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
I’m actually working on 3 up and coming projects.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of “Judge Me” music video?
My creative thinking was to show a day in Chicago, preferably the lower end of Chicago. Typically artists from Chicago show their neighborhoods and I simply wanted to do the same. But my area isn’t popular as other artists neighborhoods like Chief Keef, Bibby, Herb, or King Louie. I just wanted to show people good visual of where I grew up.
Where can we find your music and info?
You can go on sound cloud: soundcloud.com/coolin-with-the-clan. Here you can hear other songs from myself and what the rest of the Clan has done. My Twitter and Instagram is (@DaRealMonte) & Pharaoh (@PharaohDaKing)
Any shout outs?
I’d like to shout out Underground Hip-Hop for giving me my first interview.
