Mr. Muddle – Q&A Interview

Mr. MuddleTell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been a producer?

I was born in San Francisco and lived there until I was 6, then I moved to Boston with my family and lived there for 8 years. Then went to high school in Delaware at A.I. DuPont. That place sucks. Don’t go to Delaware. I’ve been producing for going on five years now.

What influences you in making Hip Hop Beats?

I’ve always really been into Jazz and Soul. Particularly the whole sigma sound soul golden years going on in Philly back in 70s. That shits dope. The Dells are sick. I guess producers that have influenced me include Madlib, Locust Toybox, Ochre, and RJD2.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other Hip Hop producers?

The samples I select. I went through all those dusty fingers samples people use so fast and realized they were overused so I began sampling different shit. However, I have used some of those tracks on one of my previous beattapes, Dream Machine. I’m a huge fan of DEVO, and plan on doing an entire tape with only DEVO samples.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I’ve collaborated with a decent amount of artists in the Philadelphia area. Currently working on a project with Mick Raw, who is a who is a Bakery Boys affiliate. Also just finished a track with Matt Ford that’s going to be on his project called Dwelling, which is going to be dope so check that shit out. My homie, Eardrum and I plan on doing a collaboration beat tape that will hopefully be done by next year. He also just released a beattape called “deaf” and if you haven’t heard that shit you need to check it out now: https://soundcloud.com/eardrum-3/sets/eardrum-deaf

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Not touching this one.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Baked Life.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of General’s Quarters? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.

Most of the tracks on the project have army themes or whatever so I wanted Mr. Muddle to be in army garb. Also had to have a couple sexy biddies in it just because….why not? My dog also recently died right before I released the tape so I threw him in there last minute. RIP Mulder.
