Osiris – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
My name is Osiris. That is my government name. I don’t have any alias or anything just Osiris. But I was born in Oak Kliff, TX and at age nine moved to Plano, TX. Both cities are on the outskirts of Dallas. Oak Kliff is the hood and Plano is the Suburbs, and that’s what my sound represents too. Experimental with that Hood Bounce. I been making music since 15. Since 15 we been basically been doing everything on our own. From the feet up. I feel like that’s the best way to go because it’s the best way to connect to people and create loyal fans.
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
Main thing that influences me is when things aren’t going my way, and everyone has counted me out. Of course other music and seeing people live in concert is inspiring, but hardships in life is what keeps me wanting to rap so people can know there not alone in the struggle regardless of where you from or what you doing.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
My Sound. That Bounce. The groove we created. Even if you don’t understand where I’m coming from you still be able to bounce with it. Being from Dallas, only thing that has come out from the city is Dance music, and I am not trying to be on that wave at all. But at the same time I have a desire to make people feel good with the music and that groove is what catches them.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
Well only person I really collabed with is my Homie Bronson. We grew up together, got high together, rode out together, and rapped together. But just recently he got locked up for some serious shit. And like I said earlier nothing inspires me more than the hardships in life and that is what inspired me more than anything to make the Hottest Summer Ever 2. Other than that I have worked with another Homie Ryan Zimmerman aka $moke $tkz. Another up and coming nigga from the D. And not Detroit nigga the real D. The triple D.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
My definition of underground hip hop is this- A look into the game five years from now. I think true hip hop and rap lives in the underground. Niggas been indie, Niggas been double timing it on beats like migos, Niggas been sipping lean and chopping and screwing music. I’m saying like back in the 90’s Niggas been doing these things. It’s just people don’t want to give credit no more. Pay homage, show love, and in not doing those things then people get it confused. But trust things you see in the underground scene you’ll see in the future on a television near you.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?
I get a lot of production influences from Djs Djs like Sango,Kaytranada, Zuper, majority of djs from Soulection and H&W Records. But besides that the Big Homie Jae Barnes does a lot too. He is another rapper from Dallas who understands the Whole Dallas Grove, so he always hits it on the nose when it comes to the beats.
And who would you like to work with?
On the cool, at this point I wanna focus on me. The movement. Cause I feel like if I hop on some track or work with someone big then they’ll affiliate me with that person. And being so fresh in the game being affiliated with someone may cause me to lose my identity, and if I don’t have an identity then I can’t brand myself either. From the feet up.
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
At this point I’m promoting my Mixtape. HOTTEST SUMMER EVER 2. Of course I stay rapping and working but I really want Niggas listen to the project and grove to it. And if I were to just constantly drop music then it be hard for them to really appreciate the tape. But regardless I’m working and cooking up so 2015 can be a good year.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of your latest Mixtape “The Hottest Summer Ever 2”? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album/Mixtape Cover Art.
Well like a lot of people I work a 9-5 and I ride the bus to get to work. On the bus is where I wrote a lot of the tape. That may seem hella corny, but seeing people on the bus and my surroundings helped me write. Well a big thing about the tape and one of the main themes of the tape is Individualism. Like I said prior to this tape I rapped with my homie and we had a team and a gang of people riding with us. That is how it was in the beginning of the summer. But as the summer went on people went to jail, homies went back to their hometowns, and other just became disloyal and soon it was just me left. So in the beginning of the tape it’s really squad heavy. But the more it goes on it focuses more on me and the situation I’m in. As far as the cover art. It was picture my homie took in the beginning of summer. I was on my porch smoking a Joe and we were just happy, unaware of what was destined for us.

Well there is my soundcloud is the main thing. Like I said I go by my government so it’s just Osiris Ruff and you’ll see me. But there you’ll find my band camp where you’ll see all the music I’ve ever put on wax and released all the way to when I was 15.
